Whitley County was formed in 1818 from Knox County so they always have shared a county line. Some one could move one or more houses away and change counties. Sometime in the future someone is going to think that some of us have moved more than we have as Knox County KY is in the process (very slow) of giving every house in the County house numbers and road names even the ones who live on a rural route. We are supposed to some day finally have a 911 system and that is the reason. The future generations will not know that unless we make sure we put all that in writing and pass it on to them.

The Whitley County history book has a short biography on the Eaton family. This is what it says: "The history of the early settlers of Whitley County could not be complete without the Eaton people. They were the first to come to the Corbin area. They came two years before the Steele family. They settled on the Laurel River, east of Corbin in the year 1806. they were very untalkative people. They would sit for hours without speaking. They were tall, dark people, very reticent people. They were the first in the area and were supposed to be Spanish with Cherokee Indian ancestry." There is also a picture of Foster Steele and Jim Eaton taken in 1911. There is also a short article on the early history of Corbin that mentions James L. Eaton and says he is the one who named the town Corbin. According to legend, Corbin has 3 co-founders, Nelson Cummins, David T. Chestnut, and James L. Eaton. James Eaton was the first postmaster and also ran a store. Jan Wilson Kings Mills, Ohio

That is where I am lost. I heard they were Indian people , with dark hair and eyes. I think she married Edward Taylor and they had a daughter by the name of Nancy (Polly) Taylor. Do you have these people in your line of Eaton's ? Please let me know, Thanks, Donna
