This would also include the 1890 for all of the nearby counties to Knox Co., KY. Most all of the entire US 1890 Fed. Census was destroyed many years ago. My understanding that just a few area of the US have the 1890 available. I don't recall offhand which ones they are but don't include KY. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA

I need assistance from some kind soul who might have access to actual Knox County, MO. marriage records from the 1820-1830s. Several databases on line indicate that there was a marriage on either June 3 or June 6, 1822, between a James W. Green(e) and Elizabeth Chestnut (Chesnut). Is there anyone who can lookup the actual record itself (or direct me to someplace which can) and tell me if there is any more information other than just their two names? There is a strong possibility that they may be the parents of my gggrandfather, James Edward Green, who was born in either Nov. 1831 or Nov. 1834 in Kentucky. I know for certain that his mother's first name was Elizabeth (though sometimes she went by the name of Eliza) and that she was born about 1804-1805 (probably in KY). She was widowed "sometime before the 1860 Federal Census"--that's when she appears in the home of James & his wife, Sarah F. Byrns, in Audrain Co., MO. I know that (1) part of Knox Co. became Harlan Co. in about 1819; (2) that several Chestnut (Chesnut) families were living in Knox County between 1810-1830 (after which they all seem to have left the area), and (3) quite a number of Green families can be found in Knox County as early as 1800 (and later in Harlan) including several listing for a "James Green". However, I cannot seem to find a "James Green" who was married to an Elizabeth...let alone an Elizabeth Chestnut. There is a possibility that James W. Green(e) and Elizabeth Chestnut (Chesnut) may have moved from the area early after their marriage. A letter that I possess from one son of my gggrandfather (James Edward Green) states that he was born near Paducah, KY which I believe is in McCracken County. I know this request is a bit lengthy and I do apologize, but I've been searching for my great-great-great grandparents names for a long time & I hope that some bit of information provided might ring a bell or two!
RESPONSE: There are a number of persons connected to the PAYNES of Knox Co. who are a part of the Knox Co. Message Board and Mail List. May I suggest you furnish some more information on your specific family with some NAMES, DATES and PLACES. If you go the Knox Co.
