J.(Stephen) is my grandfather, I was not interested in genealogy while he was livng, so only heard the story from him. Ben's grave is at Dowis Chapel in Wilton, Knox County, but is not found in any list of graves for that cemetery. Wilton is just above the Whitley County line and near Corbin. It is probably marked by a worn, blank tombstone by this time. When we were in Kentucky a couple of years ago, we found one cemetery with all the stones worn blank. While we were there, we searched for her grave, but never found it. I, really, would think something like this would be in the news. The story I heard was a worker in a mill came after Benjamin, Benjamin hit him with a board and killed him. The men at his home were seeking vengence for that incidence. Rebecca was upstairs with the children, the youngest a week old. Ben shot and killed one or more of the group, she became upset and bled to death. Thanks for your response, if you ever hear anything, let me know. Mary

It is actually Dowis Chapel Rd and is located at Wilton Ky, which is in Knox Co. The Wilton area is west of Barbourville on a map on located on St. Rt. 6. Dowis Chapel only has 2 cemeteries that I am aware of and I grew up there and roamed those hills plenty. I don't find any Wyatt's on either pf my lists, but perhaps he was buried on his farm or has an unmarked grave. Hope I have helped in some way. Regina

Rebecca Crain Wyatt's husband, Benjamin William Wyatt was the son of my ggggrandparents, James Wyatt and Sally Ann Gregory. I have heard the story of Rebecca from a couple of different people but I've never been able to confirm anything either. I do have Benjamin William's death certificate though and it might offer some information. It says he died March 15, 1916 and he was widowed. Well, "married" was written in but crossed out and "widowed" was written in. The informant was S. J. Wyatt and I think that was probably his son Stephen. It shows the place of burial as Dowace Chappel. I'm not sure where that is but S. J. Wyatt and the doctor's address show Wilton, KY. That must be in Knox County because that's where the death certificate is registered. Hope this helps in some way.
