Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CBB.2ACE/5078.1 Message Board Post: Hello, I have a James BARGO, b. March 20, 1883 at Salt Gum, Knox Co. who died abt. 1970 (no record in the KY Death CD's of death). He was the s/o Robert "Bob" BARGO and Hannah Emilene/Emly/Milene CALLEBS . James BARGO married on December 15, 1903 in Knox Co. to Nancy MILLS, b. Sept. 10, 1889 in Knox Co.; d. Sept. 3, 1970 in Knox Co. Nancy MILLS was the dau. of Nasby MILLS and Nancy JORDAN. I have 10 children listed for them. I am not sure of the source of this information (prob. from one of the Family History Books) but I have copied "James BARGO was a farmer and a coal miner. He also owned and operated a small grocery store at Salt Gum for a period of time. James and Nancy lived at Salt Gum but later moved to Powell Branch at Bimble in the mid-1950's. Later they moved again on to Highway 1304 at Bimble and lived there until their deaths. They are buried at the Macroe Branch Cem. at Scalf. James was ill for several years and Nancy took care of him in their home." I am assuming you are connected to the son, Edward BARGO, b. May 21, 1912 because of your query on the Harlan Co. Message Board . I am not a direct descent. My connection is through MILL marriages to BARGOs in my data base. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA

Just a thought or two.... could that lady's grandfather have purchased the land from Ewell and Elizabeth's estate? Then it would make some sense that they might really be buried there. Or, perhaps, the deed would have some specific wording regarding family rights to the cemetery written into the legal document. I'd try to get a copy of the deed as well as checking census records. That deed might end up having some interesting info in it. Kathy Cassy Sommers wrote: > Can anyone tell me positively where Ewell Messer b. 1839 and > Elizabeth Baker Messer b. 1842 are buried? Could some one do a lookup for a James Davis or it could be Davidson with the mother being Catherine Davidson or Davis. 1) James was born Jan. 22, 1894. 2) Alex Davis or Davidson b. 1901. 3) Evan b abt 1882. They all would have the same mother Catherine Davidson but different fathers. Thanks, Sharon
Can anyone tell me positively where Ewell Messer b. 1839 and Elizabeth Baker Messer b. 1842 are buried? Here is why I ask. I have found the Cemetery in front of the Brewers at Walker, Knox County. I spoke with the lady who ownes this property and use to be a Brewer (maiden name) She claims and I saw the deed that her grandfather purchased the land from Ewell and Elizabeth Messer. She also showed us the cemetery where her relatives are buried and two unmarked graves which she says are Ewell and Elizabeth Messer. I have other information in my notes that states Benjamin Messer father of Ewell Messer is buried in this cemetery. The woman I spoke to insisted there were only two unmarked graves Ewell and Elizabeth. What I am trying to do is see if anyone can prove Ewell and Elizabeth are buried elsewhere. If I can prove this then I can make with a fairly good hunch these unmarked graves belong to Benjamin Messer not Ewell. I guess I find it strange that Ewell and Elizabeth would sell their land but then come back and be buried there instead of being buried on the land they still own. Any thoughts? One more question. Can someone do a look-up for me of the 1910 and 1920 census and see if there is a Ewell Messer family? He was 60 in 1900. Thank you, Cassy. --
