I do recall having seen a photo in one of the family history books around. I'll have to look to see where it was and if I have it. All I do recall is that it was a small photo and not particularly clear. Sounds to me as if you need to get started researching your family. There are any number of your "cousins" on line who belong to the Knox Co. Mail List and Message Board. Much of the information I provided you is available in "The Bingham Family of Southeast Kentucky". Look under "books for sale" under Knox Co. or the main usgenweb site. You will find a link for books for sale. This book is abt. 1100 telephone-book sized and very worthwhile. Are you by change connected to Silas BROWN, b. Nov 1868 in Knox Co.; mar. 1886 to Elizabeth HAMMONS COMBS, b. April 1871 in Knox Co. through their dau, Mollie BROWN, b. 1891 who married a James SMITH, b. 1880???? The dates for the children of Silas BROWN are: Eli, b. May 1890 Mollie, b. 1891 Alifar, b. Apr 1892 Daw, b. 1893 Stephen D., b. Mar 10, 1896 Evie, b. Jun 1897 I cannot trace your more immediate relatives and connect them without some more information from you. For example, this Cecil and Farmer SMITH. When approx. were they born and who were their children? Also, your Jim and Mary MILLS. There are literally hundreds of Jim and Mary MILLS in Knox Co. over the years. When were yours born and poss. who were their parents and/or children? My gg-grandfather was Cornelius Alexander TAYLOR (b. 1794-d. 1874 in Knox Co.) mar. 1814 to Sarah Ann WALKER (dau. of Walter and Annie WALKER, she was b. 1795 and d. ca 1885 in Knox Co. Three of the TAYLOR dau's in the lst generation married into the MILLS family and many other families of Knox Co. Because they intermarried so much back then, I have a large number of family connections through marriages. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA

Apr 1850 and a George NORTON from NC. ) The son, George NORTON was b. in Jan 1873, would be the lst grandson. In the BINGHAM book, the "BINGHAM Family of Southeast KY", it says that Adaline BROWN, dau. of Thursey never married; however, she did have 3 children. She had two others with Elijah HOBBS. This Elijah HOBBS was b. June 18, 1853 in Clay Co. and was the s/o Joseph HOBBS and Elisabeth SHEPHERD. Margaret BROWN mar. to this same Elijah HOBBS had a dau., Mary, b. If so, they are entirely different. Fort Knox is located in Hardin Co., KY in the northwestern part of the state. So, also is the Shelby Co. you have mentioned in your query. Knox Co., on the other hand, is located in the southeastern part of the state. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA

In family lore the wilosns owned the land Ft Knox was built on. John went to Putnam Co Indiana and later to Iowa and died in Nebraska. Family stories also say he had several brothers, some of whom fought for the Union and some for the south and the family that fought for the south were never heard from again. John and Martha had sons Allen, Owen, Edward, Thomas Henry and John and daughters Nancy and Lydia. All except the youngest Henry were born in Indiana. Martha was possibly from Shelby Co KY. Any links to this family and Johns and Martha's parents would be really appreciated!

William married a Laura Elizabeth Taylor born May 28 1907 in VA. Daughter of Berry and Nancy ?? Taylor. Her mother Nancy Taylor married again to a ?? Barker Laura Elizabeth Taylor first married a James Matt Hoskins from Pineville Bell Co KY. They had 7 children. After James died Laura married William Bowling they had a daughter Sheila Gail Bowling May 2 1950 in Tetterville a small town in Harlan Co Kentucky. Laura was older than William and I don't know how much older. William may have had the nickname "Red". They were not married long and divorced when the child was about 8 months old. It is thought that William moved to Baltimore MD after the divorce. William tried to contact the child through the help of a man named John Middleton who had one leg. They called him "Peg Leg." Any info on any of the above names would be appreciated. Thanks, Sharon
