    1. re: Elihu marriage look-up
    2. Joyce Collins
    3. RESPONSE: There are a number of different marriage books for marriages in Knox Co. Up through 1911, these marriage books have been transcribed and are available for purchase from the Knox Co. Genealogical Society. Marriages from 1800 - 1850 are contained in Marriage Book A. Here is the marriage you are looking for: November 16, 1844 PAYNE, Elisha to: VANNOY, Mary Wm. P. READ, minister; Elijah PAYNE, father; Alexander VANNOY, bondsman I thought I had given you this marriage earlier but perhaps I did not. Joyce Taylor Collins la Palma, CA Message text written by INTERNET:KYKNOX-L@rootsweb.com >Would like to thank all who responded. You guys are the best. But I'm baffled. While in Knox Co a yr and a half ago, I combed the courthouse for all Payne records, and found no marriage for Elihu, with the exception of his m. to Mahala Smith. Now it's always possible that I could have missed it, but assuming that I didn't, is there another place that may hold co. records? Thanks, Bev<

I am almost to the end of my journey, but am trying to find out who Catherine Potter was before she married John Potter and showed up in the 1870 Census. They had a son James, and later Nathaniel, Andrew Mc, Sallie A. and George W. which show up on the 1880 Census for Knox County. I am almost ready to call it quits and publish the tree for the Potter family, but I feel I must give one last attempt. If anyone can help me, I would gladly exchange information, if I have any of use. Thanks! Juetta Potter, KY

To answer your question, yes, we are off one generation here. In other words, S. William BROUGHTON, Sr. (b. 4 DEC 1784, Buncombe Co., NC) and wife Elizabeth NICHOLSON (b. 1789 in NC) are *my* Sarah's parents. In fact, I have photos of their gravestones (Broughton Plot - Friendship Baptist Church Cemetary in Stinking Creek - Hammond, KY). NOTE: Elizabeth Nicholson did not die until 1875 (though some researchers erroneously show pre-1860 ... probably based on inference from census info) Yes, I also show that Sarah "Sally" married John HIGNITE on 15 JAN 1829 in Knox Co. and Susannah married John BRIGHT, Sr. betw. 1830-1833. I also show that they had 3 more siblings: - John BROUGHTON who married Sarah PAYNE in 1830; [not sure about this ref. to Mariah/Almira SCALF ..??] - Stacy BROUGHTON who married James HAMMONS in 1835, and lastly my own GGG-grandfather ... - William BROUGHTON, Jr. who married Mariah GREEN 6 SEP 1832 in Knox County, KY. 3. Hi, I am hoping to hear from someone who does the Hammons line. This is the first time I have seen the Hammons surname posted while I have been on the list. I don't do the Hammons line but was hoping to hear from someone who has a Tom or Tomas Hammons who married Fanny Warf or Fanny Grace. Tom dies at an unkown year and Fanny married a James Davis. Fanny was said to have died about 1922 and she died in Knox Co. but I can not find her on the Ky. Death index. Does anyone know anything about these people?
