Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/CBB.2ACE/5115.2.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hello, Florene, Sorry, after I wrote I did see your name in the upper part of your query. Last evening I sent you some information on your particular line of the MILLS family. Yes, it is and still can be very confusing because family given names were repeated over and over again in many generations. Searching for our families is an interesting, sometimes confusing, but wonderful long-term hobby or search. Repeating of names and families marrying back and forth is not peculiar just to Knox Co. but to most all of the areas around for that time. Overall, our ancestors were a very fascinating bunch. I do not know if you are a beginner or not. However, if you are, I would make the suggestion that you first either purchase some type of genealogy program or download one that is on line and free. In either case, start with yourself or what is known and work backwards confirming information with source materials as they are located. By the time you enter yourself, your siblings, their spouses, then your parents, your parents' siblings, your grandparents, their siblings, all the marriages, the births, the deaths, you will be kept busy for a long, long time. A genealogy program simply helps you to easily see what you have and what you don't have. And you can always return to some specific spot later on without missplacing that material. I would also suggest you return to the Knox Co. Message Board and in the upper left hand corner where there is a search line, simply type in the surname, MILLS and be sure to click on "Knox". The system will give you ALL the queries, responses, etc. where the name MILLS was mentioned. It is a good way to acquaint yourself with the many, many MILLS cousins you have out there. It will also be educational in that you will learn more and more about the fairly large number of Nasby MILLS' children and how they are all connected one to the other in the later generations. Much of my family history is confirmed by family members, and Tom Sr. Mills on Jeff's Creek in Knox County did marry Amanda like my family said, but Tom Jr. ALSO lived on Jeff's Creek in Knox County. From the oral history from family, I either assumed they were talking about the same Tom on Jeff's Creek, or they assumed I knew the difference! Hope this helps other Mills relatives, Carolyn Gambrel

Eula Mae ended up marrying someone by the last name of MORGAN. She received her AB degree from Union college in Barbourville and her MA degree from the Univ. of Arkansas. She taught chemistry and physics at Pennyslvania college. These young ladies were granddaughters of James MARSEE and his wife Miranda MYRICK. You did not sign your e-mail. There are literally dozens and dozens of direct descendants of the MILLS family on the Message Board and the Mail List for Knox Co. You should return to the Message Board and post a reply to your own or to my message so that it all will stay together. Don't make a brand new posting. I have in my data base that your father, Benjamin Robert "BR" MILLS, b. April 23, 1884 in Knox Co.; married October 22, 1905 in Clay Co., KY. He died July 26, 1952 at lexington, Fayette Co., KY. Benjamin's father was James Isaac "Jim Ike" MILLS and one of his 3 known wives, Elizabeth "Bettie" MARLOW. Then James Isaac's father was Isaac MILLS mar. to Lavina "Vina" HAMMONS and Isaac's parents were Nasby and Esther HADDOCK MILLS. I have colateral family lines through Clark "Big Clark" MILLS who married two of Cornelius Alexander TAYLOR and Sarah Ann WALKER TAYLOR's daughters, Sarah and Margaret. And another dau., Alabama TAYLOR mar. the nephew of Clark who was Brice MILLS. There were many, many other marriages bet. TAYLORS and MILLS and other related family throughout the years. BR's first wife was Martha JONES. Do you have any information as to who her parents were?? He didn't marry your mother until in the 1940's. What a spread in ages you have between the first family beginning in 1905 and the second marriage in the 1940's!! So, I can see that Ben R. MILLS was b. in 10-31-1942 and would know that you were then born at some point close to that and prior to his death in 1952. You would have been so young when he died, you probably have little memory of him. Did your mother then remarry? If so, to whom? Your mother, America "Merkey" GAMBREL. All I have is that on her birth record in the 1920's, her mother's maiden name is shown as Gessie MESSER. What additional information can you share on her so that I can really know who she is? Like, who was America's father and the actual name of her MESSER mother. I and many others have GAMBREL and MESSER connections also. I'm sure I already have something on her family in my data base but just am not able to know who the connection. Let me know if I can help you further. Some of my information on BR MILLS has come from the files of Teresa TOWNSLEY COREY at: tlcorey@yahoo.com Was wondering if you have spoken with her. I believe she is a direct descendant. Hopeing someone can help me out here. There is a Mary Broughton b. May 7 1881 d. Mar 15, 1888 buried in the Girdler Cemetery. this Mary Broughton is buried very close to Neely Gibbins. Neely's wife is Mandy Broughton d/o Joesph Broughton and Nancy Hignite. Joseph and Nancy also had a daughter Mary b. abt 1854. Can anyone confirm if this is/isn't Joesph and Nancy's daughter Mary? Can anyone look and see if Joseph and Nancy's daughter Mary was ever married? I don't have a spouse listed for her. I have looked in the Kentucky lineage book and nothing is said about this particular Mary d/o Joesph and Nancy except that she was born in 1854. Nothing else. Thank you so much. Cassy, The child could have died in an earlier year and then death cert. didn't get filed until later. The parents could have name the next child with the same name in the mean time. Then, again, as you say, they might have just flat out recorded the dates incorrectly. Kathy Cassy Sommers wrote: > Can someone help with a little Taylor child. Warren and Rebecca Carnes. Do you know if Jefferson and Malinda had a daughter - Martha? Jeff was good friends with my g. grandfather James Catlett and traveled with him to get my grandmother out of an orphan's home when she was placed there with her brothers by her father Augustus C. Warren who was brother to Malinda. I will stop here and hope to hear from you. Take care, Toni
Can someone help with a little Taylor child. At the Clay Gap cemetery there is an Onida Taylor b. 10 18 1935 d. 6 25 1937. I found the following on her death. TAYLOR ONEDA 001 KNOX MILLS 06-25-1934 034 16572 1937 I would guess the death date here is wrong as it is listed in volume 1937 so the year is probably 1937. We can't find anyone with a birth date close to that, that is a Taylor. The only other Taylors I saw there were Isaac Taylor s/o Cornelius and Amanda Taylor who m. a James Frank Patterson. I know that Oneda doesn't belong to either of them. Any thoughts? Cassy -- Please check out my new free genealogy site. I am currently looking for others willing to share their photographs as well. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~foe3643/
