    2. Cassy Sommers
    3. Just wanted to let everyone know that I have gotten around to updating Tombstone Central this weekend. I have added the following cemeteries. Completed Cemeteries as follows: Campbell Cemetery on RTE 6 Paint Hill Campbell Cemetery on 25 E Bailey Switch Hughes Hill Cemetery on Hwy 11 Girdler Partial Cemeteries: Rough Creek Cemetery, on 80 and 830 Rough Hill I'm trying to add the Girdler Cemetery aka Jones aka Hammons, but the computer is not playing nicely. Thank goodness my husband is a computer genius, so we may get it done tonight with luck. Cassy. PS Tombstone Central can be found be searching google or clicking on the link below. and as always I'm still looking for cemetery directions. Mainly in Knox County, but anywhere in the tri-county region of Laurel, Knox, and Whitley. -- Please check out my new free genealogy site. I am currently looking for others willing to share their photographs as well. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~foe3643/

    1. Jobie Gross
    2. Joyce, I thought if I could rule out this Jobie Gross, I'd be that much closer to finding my aunt Jobie. Her real name was Joie but she was called Jobie. I'm sure it's possible that she had no birth record at all. Mary S.

    1. Death Date of Elizabeth Bays b. NOV 1869
    2. Wanda Howard
    3. Sue, I have George Bays' Certificate of Death. His date of death is SEPT 10, 1938. It states that he was Married not Widowed. Father's name: George Bays, since Loyd Bays was the informant I suspect that he was asked his father's name. William Bays was George Bays' father. His mother was Elizabeth Goley Bays. George was buried at Dewitt, KY. There are several Elizabeth "Betty" "Betsy" Bays' in our line. I have Bettie Bays' Certificate of Death. She is Elizabeth Goley Bays the wife of William Bays. ( FEB 27, 1842--NOV 15, 1914) The other "Betsy" Bays is Elizabeth Holt Lawson Bays. She married Charles H. Bays 17 DEC 1888. This Elizabeth was b. Abt. 1838 and d. 21 MAY 1918. (This Charles H. Bays was the son of Peter C. Bays and Mary "Polly" Addington Bays.) Another Elizabeth "Betty" Lawson married James M. Bays and Annie L. Roberts' son Charles H. Bays. She was born 6 OCT 1882 and died 31 DEC 1977, Knox County, KY. Buried in the Adams Cemetery. I have one more Elizabeth Bays that died at Lay, KY, Knox County. I can't find her in my files. I'll keep searching. Hope this helps. Wanda

    3. RESPONSE: I checked the Birth CD for ANY births to a Martha LEONARD having GROSS babies and could not locate anyone you have listed from the time period 1911 - for the next 40 years. So there is some type of problem here. Perhaps the children were born prior to 1911 or out of the area or the maiden name is different. Anyway, there is some type of problem. I did not just check Whitley Co. but the entire state of KY. There was a Jobie GROSS born in Clay Co. on 12-20-1915 to a Margaret ALLEN, Vol. 129, Cert 64099. Generally the given name, Jobie, is for a male. There is another Jobie GROSS listed on the 1920 Clay who is a male, age 4 yrs and living in the household of Samuel GROOSE and his wife, Sarah. ALLEN families are living all around. It may be that the death record you found is one of these two Jobie GROSSes but I really don't know. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA Message text written by INTERNET:KYKNOX-L@rootsweb.com >Does anyone know if the Jobie GROSS who is listed in the Kentucky Death Index is the Jobie Gross, daughter of William "Bill" and Martha LEONARD Gross? She had three sisters, Nancy "Nan", (my grandmother who married Stehen JONES); Scott (female) who married James HARP; and Alice who married Hays PEACE. My Gross family lived at Rockholds, Whitley Co., KY. Any help on this would be appreciated. Mary S. <

    3. Hello, BELOW is a message I received from Donna at; dsmathome@msn.com. She asked that I post this information to the Knox Co. Mail List. I am not related to these families. However, if you are, you may wish to communicate further with Donna directly or on the List. There is some very important information from a Family Bible as well as Rev. Pension Information. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA Joyce, I found my William W. Mitchell the one that settled in Knox Co. Ky. between 1811-19. If you'd like you can post this information, for any one whom may be interested. The information came out of a bible of the Mitchell-Riley families. It reads: "My good will I bear to my children I have this Holy Book at my decease- to my daughter, Sarah Riley and heirs.not to be sold on any acct..Signed- J. B. Mitchell 4/13/1834. North Carolina ,where he taught school until 1789, then he moved to Newberry District South Carolina, then he moved on to Edgefield District South Carolina. Soldier had married in 1782 (wife not named). Soldier was deceased in 1852, a daughter Sarah Riley of Edgefield District South Carolina in 1852 was the only surviving child and the only one named. { There was just Sarah (Mitchell) Riley and William W. Just thought you might enjoy the information to pass along on to anyone who could use the info..Sincerely, Donna<

Mary Belle MILLS, b. abt. 1885; died abt. 1956. Her marriage to William SiMPSON is of record in Bell Co., KY and was on April 30, 1896. You could order a copy of that marriage. Mary Belle's parents were: Isaac MILLS, b. Aug 1845 in Knox Co.; died Dec. 7, 1957 in Knox Co.; married April 7, 1870 in Knox Co. to Margaret Ann TAYLOR (whose parents were: Isaac "Ike" TAYLOR and Permelia Ann HAMMONS). Isaac TAYLOR was an older brother to my g-grandfather, Harrison TAYLOR, both sons of Cornelius Alexander TAYLOR and Sarah Ann WALKER TAYLOR. 3. RESPONSE: Sorry, I could not locate a date of death in KY on your Elizabeth BAYS. I was able to locate them on both the 1910 and the 1930 Knox Co. Fed. Census. BAYS, George W., lived and died in Greenup Co., KY; died 5-26-1949 at the age of 86 years, Vol. 019, Cert #09320 NOTE: At least the age calculates close. This other date of death you probably were giving looks good until you check the age plus the fact she was alive in 1930: BAYS, Elizabeth, died in Knox Co. on 5-21-1918 at the age of 80 years, Vol. 028, Cert 13814 NOTE: which would equate to a birth year of 1838 - - not correct!!! I have a photograph of "a" Nasby Mills who is buried in Clay Gap Cemetery in Piegon Roost, Knox County, Kentucky. Can anyone identify this particular Nasby. His stone is so very difficult to read. I think if I tried to give the dates it would probably just through everyone off more, but. MAYBE b. Aug 8 ???? d. probably 1896. The stone looks to say b. 196 and d. 1496 this doesn't make sense. I know it can't be 1996 as the stone is VERY old. any help is greatly appreciated. IF it helps any there is "a" Frank Mills and "a" Emal or Emala Mills also buried there and their stones are also too difficult to read. May have to go do a rubbing when the weather gets better.
