Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CBB.2ACE/5177.1 Message Board Post: Hello, I am not absolutely sure about all of this information, but here goes. Some I have in my database and some I do not. As far as Celia BAKER , this could be her: 1870 Knox Co. Dwelling 153-2-2 BAKER, Joseph, 69 farmer, VA . Jane, 69 ,b. KY . Margaret J., 26, KY . Amanda, 20 ,KY . .Celia A., 17, b. KY * * NOTE: This family does not appear to have yet arrived in Knox Co. as of the 1860. Don't know where they were. As far as Gorden/Gordon is concerned, by 1880, he appears as follows: Dwelling 201-208 MESSER, Gorden, 24, husband, b. KY; parents b. KY . Cealy, 24, wife, b. KY;parents .KY . Wesley, 4 , son, b. KY . Pallas, 2, son, b. KY . .Frank C., 2 mo's, son, KY NOTE: I could not locate their marriage in Knox or in Bell Co.;however. I have this Gordon as a child of Edward/Edmond MESSER, b. ABT.1816 in Knox Co. (s/o Moses MESSER and Winnie GOLDEN MESSER) and Annabelle DUNLAP/Anna/Anne PATTERSON b. abt. 1815 in Knox Co. Although Edward MESSER was in Knox co. the whole first part of his life, by the 1880 Fed. Census he was in Ray Co., MO where he supposedly died at some point aft. the 1880 Fed. Census. Edward was married to a Arin WALKER TAYLOR abt. which I have no additional information. Then in 1834 in Knox co. , he married to Anna PATTERSON who had married lst to John WALKER and was a widow when she married to Edward MESSER. They had a whole bunch of children and then later in life , he took up with a Mary SCALF less than half his age, and started having children with her. After a while, they married and continued having more children. What is a little confusing is that the 1860 Fed. Census for Knox does not list this Gordon and then the 1870 lists him but slightly out of order. Actually Edward MESSER this new wife, Mary SCALF MESSER , and his former wife, Anna and her dau. from her first marriage and granddau. are all listed as though they were in the same household but were probably living in another home on his property. 1870 Knox Co. Dwellinb 90-1-1 Flat Lick MESSER, Edward, 55, farmer, b. KY . Mary , 21, KY (nee SCALF) .l Elihew, 4, KY . Anthony, 1, KY . Richard, 20, KY . .Ellis, 13, KY . .Gorden, 16, KY * * . Anna, 60, KY (former wife, Anna PATTERSON WALKER MESSER) . Jane, 35, KY . .Martha, 2 mo's, KY 1860 Knox Co. Dwelling 597 MESSER, Edward, 44, KY . .Anora, 50, KY (Anna) . .Jane, 25, KY . .Asa J., 21, KY . .Dicia, 18, KY . .Allen, 16, KY . .Mary, 12, KY . .Richard, 10, KY His father is 3 dwellings removed: Dwelling 600 EDWARDS, Mosses, 65, b. SC . .Winna, 60 ,TN (nee GOLDEN) . Andrew, 21, KY By the time of the 1900 Knox Co. , this family is gone. Perhaps he left for Ray Co., MO as had his parents. Don't really know what happened to Gordon and Celia. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CBB.2ACE/5177 Message Board Post: Hi, I have hit a brick wall with my research and wondering if someone has some information to help get over it. I am searching for the parents of Telithia Messer, I have her death certificate and it states she was born in 1886. The death certificate is hard to read but , it actually looks like Barberville or Barkerville, but can find no town spelled either way. So I am thinking it is suppposed to be Barbourville. It says her father was G T (or F) Messer and her mother was Celia Baker both listed as being born in the same town as Telithia. Has anyone come across information about this family? I have searched the 1880 Knox county census and have found a Gorden and Cealy Messer livng in Knox county, this is the closest I have come to a possibility. By 1910 Telithia was married living in Illinois, Union County Thank you for any help Jean Rowcliffe in Colorado

    3. I know that most of my Honeycutts are buried in Scalf cemetery, but some are turning up in a Howard or Howard B Cemetery. I can find no info on Howard in Knox. IT HANGS IN A PUBLIC BUILDING s.e; LIBRARY, POST OFFICE, CITY HALL COURT HOUSE ??? exactly where i don't know but i know it is there, in Barbourville Ky, 2. in this picture is A COUPLE, and they are looking off ,(into the past or into the future, perhaps). and it was like a yesteryear picture,... i think, 3. this picture was always spoken of, when MICHAEL MILLS and his books were mentioned, hmm, actually before the book was ever mentioned i seem to remember, but i THINK, the name/title of this picture could be LOOKING BACK, A LOOK BACK, LOOKING FORWARD ???exact title unknown, but like i said it IS there is BARBOURVILLE,(somewhere) 4. the people in the picture are related to me,.... i am a HELTON, FOLEY, HUBBARD,GOLDEN and all the others that go into the HELTON lines there, and of course PARTON/PARTIN, so i think the ones in the picture would be of these blood lines, and there you have it, the OTHER HALF of my wish is to FIND THIS PICTURE-PAINTING-PHOTOGRAPH, and i'd like to have a copy of it, or a snapshot of it, why i'm not really sure, except all my life i've had a deep seeded hunger to KNOW MY PEOPLE there in KENTUCKY, being raised with a daddy who dearly loved and remembered HIS Kentucky, i grew up KNOWING 'about' kentucky and our people there, but never knowing the people themselves, my blood, my family there, until now, and so i NEED to know; WHERE that picture is,.... WHO was the artist, or owner of the picture ? WHAT IS THE PICTURE CALLED ? so my dears as you go about your daily lives, there in my daddys beloved Barborville, PLEASE keep an eye on the WALLS, of the public buildings you enter, and help me fulfill the rest of my heartfelt wish, i'm in your debt, in kinship, Deborah Dora Lee d/o JAY ESTEL PARTON/PARTIN gd/o DORA NETTIE HELTON,& JOHN PARTIN/PARTON of BARBOURVILLE,

However, I have the KY Death CD's I ordered from the State of Kentucky, so I looked for you. BARRETT, Lovadie, died on 10-24-1918 in Knox Co., KY at the age of 32 years; Vol. 059, Cert #29284 BIRTH CD's: BARRETT, Earl b. 6-30-1913 in Knox Co., Vol. 202-93156; maiden name of mother: Lavada SHELTON You can order the Death Cert for $1.50 from Mr. Chester WARD on line. Go to: http://www.google.com and type in his name on the search line and you should be able to get his web page. For the past couple weeks, I have also seen on line on the Message Boards for Knox and maybe Clay Co. someone advertising free look-ups from the CD's and that they go to Frankfort weekly. So, those are two choices for you. Apparently Lavada SHELTON BARRETT died in the great Spanish Influenza epidemic of abt. 1918 that killed millions of people in that day. Most anyone in KY had someone die during this period. I know I had several relatives who died from this flu. I suspect you are having a hard time locating William BARRETT in Knox Co. because as of 1900, I do not see him or Lavada SHELTON there. I also did not see Lavada in Bell Co. as of 1900. I also did not see them as a couple as of the 1910 Fed. Census for KY. It may be they had not yet married. Hopefully, her death record will shed some light on her parents or birthplace. With regard to William BARRETT, I saw several of them around as of 1910 in Clay, in Laurel, in Bell, etc. but not with a Lavada. With no other information regarding his parentage or age, I cannot provide you any further information. Good luck to you in your search. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA
