The third marriage to James Shoops is the big question mark. Dicey died around 1885. If someone has the marriage databases and could check on this information, I would really appreciate it. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CBB.2ACE/5177.1.2.1.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Joyce, Thank you for looking that census up for me. Joeseph is actually who I am doing this research for, he is my uncle and he's turning 75 this year, as you can tell from the census. I have been researching my lines, which includes my aunts, and can tell he would love to find more information about his family, since he doesn't know too much about them. I am still trying to catch up and keep everything straight. Where have you found the Messer's in Missouri, is it only Ray and St. Louis? The reason I am asking is because you mentioned before that there was no marriage record in Knox County for Gorden and Celia. Then I have found information on Rootsweb that Celia's father Joseph supposedly died in Smithton Missouri. in 1895. Since you have that Edward moved to Missouri before 1880 and it appears that Joseph Baker did also, I am wondering if the families could have moved together and then Gorden and Celia moved back to Knox County Ky after they were married. I checked the LDS 1880 index for Joseph but could not find him in Ky or Mo, so I don't know how they have his name spelled. But did find possibly Joseph's son John Baker living in Henry County Missouri in 1880. The site on rootsweb states that Joseph was buried in a plot owned by his son John E. Baker, that is where I came up with the sons name. I'm just sort of thinking out loud about this. Jean

Then I was on the Illinois death index (http://www2.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/genealogy/forms/idphdeathsrch.html) and found Celia Messer listed as dying on 02/11/1931 in Road District # 5, Union County Illinois. I was waiting till I found her listed in the census before I ordered the death certificate, but based on what you found in the 1920 census, it probably is her, so I'll send off for that record.

The information provided by Jean that Telithia's parents or father appears to be a G. T.? MESSER provides an additional Clue. With Jean's information that parts of this family ended up in IL and also with the knowledge that some of the MESSERs went to MO, I found (I think) Celia A. BAKER MESSER in 1920 as follows: 1920 Jackson Co. , IL Makanda Township Dwelling 47-49 MESSER, Celia, age 70, widow, b. KY, parents b. KY . Palestine, grandson, 5 yrs+, b. IL, father b. KY; mother b. IN . Louise, grandau., 4 yrs+, b. "MO", father b. KY; mother b. IN NOTE: Her age is almost correct from her age as she shows listed with her husband, Gorden MESSER on the 1880 Knox: Dwelling 201-208 MESSER, Gorden, 24, husband, b. KY; parents b. KY . . Cealy, 24, wife, b. KY; parents b. KY . Wesley,4, son, b. KY . . Pallas, 2, son, b. KY (they even had a son , Palestine/Pallas for whom the little grandson was probably named) . .Frank C., 2 mo's, b. KY Cassy, I don't know where I got it but I have a possible place of death for Edward MESSER as St. Louis, MO. Certainly would appear that Gorden Thomas/ G. T./etc. and his wife either left at the same time or shortly thereafter. One can see that this family was moving around in MO, IL as Jean has pointed out to us. Jean, I'd like to know more about that cemetery listing you found in Union Co., IL. I could not locate Celia on the 1930 which is probably because of some "off" spelling of her name. Fromt the information you gave me I found that Joseph and Jane Baker also went to Missouri, so that could explain why no marriage record in Knox County, but I haven't confirmed this information is accurate yet. To answer your question I am researching the Rogers line from Franklin county Illinois and Jackson County Tennessee. Desmond Rogers born 1899 in Franklin County Illinois married Blanche McGee born 1910 Illinois, she was the daughter of James Orville McGhee and Telithia Messer. First census I have with the two of them is the 1910 they are livng in Union County Illinois, then in 1920 they are living in Franklin County Illinois, sometime they were supposed to have lived in Jackson County Illinois, their daughter Blanche is supposed to have been born there, I haven't actually found her birth record yet though, that is why I left her place of birth blank above. On August 24, 1920 Telithia died from complications (Puerperal Sepsis) from childbirth on July 9, 1920. the information given on the death certificate is from her husband James Mcghee. Birthdate given is June 22, 1886, age 34 years 2 months 2 days, buried Zeigler cemetery Franklin County Illinois. I have just recieved this death certificate this week so I have not gotten a listing for Ziegler Cemetery to see if her parents might also be buried there. I did find a record for a Celia Messer death in Union County in 1931, trying to find the 1930 census for her to see if could be the mother before I order the death certificate. I hope this answered all your question, I tried to include all the information but please let me know if I can provide any additional information. I have not been able to find the McGhee's or the Messer's in the 1900 census to find where and when James and Telithia got married. James McGhee is from White County Illinois, but I could find no record of the Messer's there.
