Adding to the information already provided to you by Brenda, in my transcrived Knox Co. Marriage Records which were sold by the Knox Co. Genealogical Society, I have this information: June 19, 1892 Page 326 Groom lst marriage Bride - lst marriage at: Newton SMITHs HUTTON, T. F., 20, b. Knox Co.; Father: Doctor HUTTON b. VA Mother: Elizabe HUTTON b. VA to: SMITH, Elizabeth, 24, b. Knox Co. Bride's father: Newton SMITH b. Knox Co. no other information listed on the mother of the bride. NOTE: I would suspect that if they did not include it here, it was not entered on the certificate. Also noted on this particular marriage record is an asterisk (*) which denoted that the marriage certificate was not signed. Quite frankly that might not have meant a thing but. . . I wanted to mention it. Also, the reason this peaked my interest is the name, Newton SMITH. I have a Newton SMITH in my data base. I have that he married Sarah TAYLOR b. June 1863. She was one of the daughters of Isaac "Ike" TAYLOR and Permelia Ann HAMMONS TAYLOR of Knox Co. Isaac was an older brother to my g-grandfather, Harrison TAYLOR b. 1836; d. 1904. I have an incomplete list of the children of Newton and Sarah TAYLOR SMITH unfortunately, so it could be some other Newton SMITH. I just don't know at this point.. I don't have the 1880 Fed. Census for him and that would have included her or should have included her if this is the same family. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA

Into the Courthouse on the square and into County Clerk's office on the first floor. There is a room off to the side, which contains all of the original marriage documents. They are indexed by Bride and Groom. This will provide you with the book and page #, which will enable you to locate the original document. The document may or may not give this information. It will depend on whether it was filled out at the time of the marriage. But it is certainly worth a try. Incidentally, all of the wills and deeds are also indexed and are available in this room and copies are 50 cents per page.

I have called around in Knox County (county clerk, etc.), but can't get any clear answers on who definitey has documents and what type. I was told most documents are in Frankfurt or Louisville. You might wish to contact a Patsy JOHNSON at: [email protected] There is also a Scott MORSE at: [email protected] In any case, from the many who have postings, they seem to agree that Jonathan HOWTON or HOUGHTON was born around 1767 in England. As a 12 year old boy he got on board a ship and sailed to America about the time the Rev. War was ending. He is buried at Hell's Half Acre in Hopkins Co., KY. I also did notice that there was a Jonathan HOWTON in Hopkins Co. early on and that there were two land grants filed by a Jonathan HOWTON in the early 1800's in Hopkins Co., KY. Some seem to think that he married Ann E. TROVER in New Orleans, LA. Scott MORSE has her born abt. 1770 in Preussen or Harrisburg, Charlotte, VA which I don't quite understand. . Their first child, David was b. in PA on Feb. 26, 1789 and others were born in VA, in PA and in KY. His parents generally seem to be listed as George HOWTON b. 1730 in Warwick, England and his mother is listed as Mary HAROLD b. in England. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA

Hi, I am not related to the Patterson side, but Sallie Wilson Patterson was a sister to my Grandpa Mack. I have that she was married to a Roger Patterson, and they had a son General Patterson. I don't have any source for the name Roger, but maybe Kager is a transcribing error? I don't have the names of other children.
