    1. Nelson/Johnson Reunion
    2. Barbara Kesterson
    3. There will be a combined Nelson/Johnson Reunion at the Farmer's Grove Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in the Blockhouse Valley area of Anderson County on July 15th, beginning at 11:00 for the descendants of John Johnson and Eliza Hensley Johnson and Jave Nelson and Ellen Evans Nelson. John and Eliza's son, Rev. John Johnson, pastored several Baptist churches in the Anderson County area, including Farmer's Grove, New Salem, Zion and Spring Hill. Rev. John Johnson's daughter Elene married David Nelson. The elder John was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia in 1814. Jave Nelson is thought to be a direct descendant of Joseph Anderson for whom Anderson County is named. Ellen's parents, Thomas and Permelia York Evans, came to East Tennessee from Knox County, Kentucky following the Civil War. John and Eliza Johnson's children included Jerome, George, Napoleon, John, Thomas, Mary, William, Martha, Demarcus, Samintha and Richard. Jave and Ellen Nelson'schildren included David, Henry, Catherine, Frank, Tom, Cynthia, Page, Taylor, Sam and Clara. A covered dish lunch will be served at the reunion around noon. Following lunch, there will be fun, games and prizes for the kids and music for the older folks to enjoy. Bring your musical instruments if you want to join in. We will have the usual displays including family histories, pictures, books and other memorabilia. Family and friends are all welcome. For more information, contact Carolyn Johnson at 865-457-3076 or by e-mail at <[email protected]> or Marie Guy at 865-457-2423.

    2. Kay Adams
    3. First Bell County is in the Cumberland River Basin. However Pineville the county seat is the only area with flood walls and doors to close the wall when the Cumberland River is at the Flood stage when the town is threaten. Several years ago the flood wall was not as high as it is now and the gates were closed.. However the water came over the wall at a low point near the Pineville Hospital. The town of Pineville was underwater with some homes and business with water almost in the second story. After that is when they raised the wall and changed where the doors are placed. Any one on the list remember the date of that flood.. 197? Cannot remember. Kay Adams Middlesboro, KY

    1. Veterans Affairs Updates it's Burials Database
    2. From [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) This is really helpful. I checked it out and found what I was looking for, my uncles gravesite in NY. Thought some of you might find it a help also. Also noticed many Civil War soldiers listings..Lois Hello All, The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has added 1.9 million burial listings to its cemeteries database. These are for military veterans buried in mostly private cemeteries, who have VA grave markers. The database already included more than 3 million graves in national cemeteries, bringing the total in the database to about 5 million listings. VA has also added maps to show many of the grave locations for those buried in VA national cemeteries, in state veterans cemeteries, and Arlington National Cemetery. The database is online at... _http://gravelocatorhttp://grave_ (http://gravelocator.cem.va.gov/) For more helpful military databases see... Online Military Indexes & Records _http://www.militaryhttp://www.m_ (http://www.militaryindexes.com/) Enjoy the 4th of July weekend! -Joe Stop telling God how big your storm is. 3. Ron, The Cumberland River forms in Harlan Co from three creeks which are the Poor Fork in Cumberland, Martins Fork, and unfortunately, I've forgotten the name of the third one, but it's in the middle of these three. Someone on the list will know it, I'm sure. My mind comes and goes. Ha! The Cumberland flows through Harlan, Bell, and Knox counties and ends up in Nashville where it empties into the Mississippi nearby. 1. Re: [KYKNOX] Robert Messer
    2. RESPONSE: Kentucky did not begin to record births and deaths until 1911 and even then it was far from perfect. I suspect he has no birth record. Sometimes you will find a long delayed one that has been reconstructed because of serving in the military or Soc. Sec. or something like that. The tombstones are often the best we have and I have found many errors on them too. People did not keep good records and sometimes there was a delay between the actual death and the setting of a stone later one. 1. Re: [KYKNOX] Robert Messer
    2. RESPONSE: Hello, I cannot answer the question you pose but you can add another marriage for old George MESSER, s/o Ewell and Mary Elizabeth BINGHAM MESSER. Knox Co. Marriage Bond Book I, Page 390 (it does indicate marriage not signed but often that didn't mean anything) May 14, 1904 Groom - 2nd marriage Bride - 2nd marriage at Artemus, KY MESSER, George, 30, b. Knox Co. father: Ewell MESSER mother: Elizabeth MESSER to: Bettie HUDSON, 32, b. Knox Co. (don't know what she started out as or if it was HUDSON) I have the date for the Belle TAYLOR marriage but could never quite figure out who her parents were. And, I have Mag POINDEXTER, age 23, dau. of James and Sarah POINDEXTER married on 27 Nov 1894. So, from strictly a marriage standpoint, they were NOT YET OFFICIALLY married when this Robert MESSER was born, assuming his birth year of 1893 is correct. I see where on his WW1 Draft Reg. he stated he was b. in Bell Co. in 1893. On the 1900 Knox Co.: Dwelling 65-68 MESSER, George, head, b. 1-1870, 30, mar. 6 yrs, b. kY; parents b. KY . .Maggie, wife, b. 1-1870, 30, mar. 6 yrs, 5 born; 5 living, b. kY; parents b. KY . .Robert, son, b. 9-1893, 6, b. KY . .Sarah, dau, b. 12-1895, 4, b. KY . . Georgia, dau, b. 2-1897, 3, b. KY . .Jimmie, son, b. 2-1897, 3, b. KY Interestingly, there are TWO KINDER families living 4 and 5 dwellings removed from George MESSER as of the 1900. However, in both cases, the wives state they have had a certain number of children and in both cases, that number is in that household. In 1920, Robert was already married with a wife and had 5 children. At the time of his WW1 Draft Reg., he stated he had 4 chidren with wife, Elizabeth "Lizzie" SHORTER. I am assuming you have ordered his death cert and that it doesn't have any different information on it regarding his parentage. This is a difficult one as were so many of the circumstances of some of our ancestors. I also did not see a record of Social Sec. for him. 3. Hello all, I am seeking information on Robert Messer, born 9-30-1893 in Bell Co., died 5-8-1962 in Bell but lived in Knox, buried in Patterson Cemetery. He lived with George Messer and Maggie Poindexter and is on the census with them as a son, but he told his family he was not born a Messer, he just took the name. Some of his grandchildren and children believe he was born a Kindred, but I cannot find anything to support that. George was married three times, to Bell Taylor, then to Maggie Poindexter and finally to Janie Woollum. (originally Jane Gray) He was too old to have been a child of Jane's, but could have been born out of wedlock to either Bell or Maggie. I cannot find a birth certificate for Robert or Bob Messer. HELP!!! Thanks, [email protected]
