Robin, I just left Kentucky on Wednesday and am now back in Florida. After getting here I have now found out that I have Sears relatives in the Ivy Grove Cemetery in 4-mile. Would you mind seeing if you do see any stones with the Sears name on them? The cemetery is next to a broken down red painted church in 4-mile. I have driven by it in years past but did not know Sears people were there.. 4-mile is right off of 25 on the Knox/Bell County line. thank you Robin! Pati sears-Burnett

Very much appreciated by many (I'm sure!)
I think Nathan Honeycutt was a brother to my grgrgrandmother Sarah "Sallie" Honeycutt. Her daughter, Nancy Lewis was my grgrandmother, who married Clay Jackson in Clay Cty., Ky. I traced, sometime ago, David, their father back to Yancy Co., N. C. to about 1790 or figured that was when David was born. I first found David Honeycutt in Wake County, NC in the 1840 census, roll 374, Page 271. He is listed as head of household with 2 males 5-10 yrs., 1 male 40-50 yrs. old, 1 female 15-20, and 1 female 40-50. By 1850 I found the same record as below on the previous listing. Sarah Honeycutt Lewis is about 29-31 by this time and married to John Lewis living in Clay County, Ky. Nathan Honeycutt is living 2 houses away, Family #105: Nathan Honeycutt 30 farmer b. N.C. Joicy 28 b. N.C., Rachael 8 b. N.C., Johnathon 7 b. N.C., John 5 b. N.C., Nancy 3 b. N.C., David 3/12 b. N.C. I really do feel Nathan is a brother to my grgrandmother Sallie considering the ages and the continued use of the same family names. On an earlier census-1820 in N.C. there are only 3 Honeycutts in the area, and one is named Nathan-possibly David's father, David, and this younger Nathan possibly named after his grandfather? By 1860-House #614-Stinking Creek, Knox Cty., Ky.-P.O. Flatlick, Ky. listing is as follows: David Honeycutt-farmer 58 b. Ky. est. birth 1801 Nancy 58 b. Ky. est. birth 1801 Nancy 35 b. House #17 lists all the John Lewis family and Rachael is living there by the last name of Honeycutt as does her child. I don't know if she is my grgrandmother's daughter before her marriage to John Lewis or possibly a sister? Family tells me my grgrandmother Nancy Lewis was a Honeycutt. By the 1880 Clay Cty. census John Lewis is 60 b. 1840 NC farmer Big Creek, Clay Cty. Ky. (his father's birthplace is listed as Tn.) (his mother's birthplace is listed as NC.) Sarah Lewis 58 b. 1822 NC keeping house (father's birthplace listed as NC) (mother's birthplace listed as NC) (Father's name-David Honeycutt) Sarah Honeycutt Lewis is found on the 1900 Clay Cty. census living with Liza and John York on Sextons Creek age 74 with an est. b. of 1826. She is listed as Mother-in-law. By 1910 Clay Cty., Ky. census she is still living with Liza and John York in Burning Springs and is listed as the mother-in-law again. On the Ky. Death Index she is listed as having d. 23 Feb. 1916 age 88, Clay. Cty., Ky. Hope this helps some! I will be out of town for a couple weeks. Keep in touch with whatever you find on the Honeycutts! Thanks, Joyce, for helping me along. Unfortunately, the Dudley's are not in my line and I know nothing of them. Dear Joyce, You are a pleasure to read. Do you know who Dudley was in the battle of Dudley's defeat? We are working to find our missing Dozier ancestor. I think he is "old J. D." killed by the Indians about 1826. His wife married Chas Handthorne in 1827. She is my direct ancestor. We find many of her descendants named Joseph Dudley Dozier/Josiah D. Dozier etc. We don't know if our cousins were named for a family surname or just for a famous person they admired. We have many cousins named William O. Butler Dozier and we know they are named after Gen. William O. Butler (no relation to us.) Mary Ellen in Oregon
Thank you, Lois, for the interest indicator. Isn't it great that, some two hundred years after an event, people continue to hold an interest in that event, especially a patriotic event such as a National battle. I would have loved to visit Fort Meigs this year but God has different plans for me. Hopefully, HE will get the cancer settled down and I can make another trip later. The first two trips were very pleasant. We live in Florida but our son, and I, try to make annual trips "home". (I say that having never lived in Kentucky but knowing Kentucky is "home". Thanks again, and keep the faith. We live in a beautiful country. RESPONSE: "Thank you, Bob". Happy 4th of July everyone. Remember the next time you stand and sing "The Star Spangled Banner" that this song was written during the War of 1812, this "second war of independence" that our brave Kentucky soldiers and others fought in. My gg-grandfather, Cornelius Alexander TAYLOR b. 1794; d. 1874 fought in this War, was captured in northern OH during the Battle of Dudley's Defeat, was hit in the side of the head with an Indian tomahawk (per pension testimony), managed an escape and joined another group of soldiers and made his way back to Knox Co., Ky. And, . . . I am here today because he lived.
