Guys this is Pati again. I have several cousins in Knox County but I may or may not be able to force them. Let me know what you need and I will see what I can do. I can think of no better pleasure than look in those books!!! But that's me! Pati
I was just in Knox County 2 weeks ago and got several Marriage Bonds and I believe that they start in the mid 1800's. Someone took several of their Bond Books right out from under their nose one day the clerk told me. I was looking for my GG Grandparents Lewis and Phoebe Bennett Sears and that was one of the books. That was the 1840 Book. But they have them in the 1850's. Pati Sears-Burnett

If so I was wondering if you would be willing to acquire a Certified Copy of my Mother's Birth Certificate? Willing to pay for the cost etc for Certified Copy, Mailing and your time. If not would you have an address or phone number to talk to a direct person who I could get an answer from for births in Galesburg, Knox county, Illinois? Any person that reads this message board can answer me if they know. My email address should show up for any one who can email me and tell me. My Mother's ashes have finally arrived to my home after 14 years trying to get them from her boyfriend-not going into that too far, any way, to bury her ashes, I need to get a Birth Certificate that is Certified and also I will get her Death Certificate and what ever papers I need to have the right to bury her. She died in CA , May 28, 1992 of Breast Cancer. It is not the distance that is my problem getting to Illinois, it is the knowledge of where records get put. We all most likely know that the court house is where they would be but not everyone knows everything or how records are handled or if fires destroyed these records etc. People New to genealogy are usually as a babe or infant to solid food. We all grow as we learn. I kind of felt one of our fellow family tree hunters was snarled at a bit for requesting help. Most of us know the bite is usually worse than the growl, and I know that most won't be offended by this statement, only the person that was verbally hurtful to a possibly very New Genealogy interested individual requesting help on this message board. It is easier to draw others to you with sweetness than a sour puss. This is not intended for anyone other than the person who was abrupt to the seeker, not the person I am asking my question to. I thank you for your time and any help that you may be able to do, if not thank you for reading this and taking the time to do so P.S. I am also looking for a marriage that possibly happened in Knox county, Illinois. It would be my Mother's Parents. waiting for your reply. Sincerely Brenda

Marriage Book A (1800 - 1850), some of the records state it is the marriage bond. When the information was available to them, additional information was added such as who the minister was, who a parent was, who the bondsman was, etc. etc. The old records I have seen at the courthouse are in registry style format with no actual marriage record in most cases. The Marriage Book A that I have was done by the Knox Co. Genealogical Society, Inc. Book A was first published piecemeal in their publication entitled "Kentucky Kinfolk". Then a few years back, it was republished in the format I have. At that time they stated "We have checked the original records that are available and we are relying on a transcription of this marriage book by the DAR which was presented to the Knox Co. Court Clerk in 1972. We are grateful for this transcription since the majority of the original records are missing. These old records are hard to read and the originals which we were able to locate were in very poor condition. I feel they were in poor condition when the DAR transcribed them so you may find some errors but hopefully this will be a good resource for your research." - - signed Maxine HUMFLEET JONES, Pres. Distance has nothing to do with it. One purchases transcribed records, one subscribes to paid genealogy sites, one joins genealogy societies, one makes phone calls, etc. etc. Most important, one checks to see who else on the Knox Co. Message Board is searching for the same surnames as you are. Where you place a query, there is a search line on the upper left-hand corner. You can type in a surname and the system will bring up other queries where that surname is mentioned. What you need to do is to post on the Message Board the names and the approx. dates of the marriages you are seeking. Marriage Book A covers from 1800 to 1850. There are many other books covering different time periods. If you are looking for a bond in this early period, I doubt it is there. Many of the old marriage records disappeared years ago. Have you checked out the main Knox co. website administered by Cassy SOMMERS? She has posted many, many records. When you post the name/s of the persons you are seeking, be sure to include some approx. date/s of birth and/or death, if known. Also state how you are related to the persons you are seeking. This will enable others to know where you come in down the line. In any case, you need to post what it is that you are looking for. Perhaps someone will have an answer for you. Otherwise, you could go to: http://www.usgenweb Click on: Kentucky There you will find the names and addresses and I think phone numbers for the court clerks. You could simply call to see if something is available. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA

I live very far away and have not a snowball's chance of getting to Knox Co. to do this for myself. Can someone refer me to a living, breathing human who can be bought, persuaded, cajoled, etc. to check for the existence of a couple of early marriage bonds? It's not a big job, but my need is pretty desperate. Happy to pay for the search whether these bonds are found or not. Leslie [email protected]

Has anyone ever seen ... or even heard rumors about ... marriage bonds in early Knox Co.? Leslie

KY I have in my files that Ambrose married on June 14, 1899 in Knox Co., KY to a Mary B. GRAY. Mary B. GRAY went on to marry an Ebb TOWNSLEY and had at least two children, William and Dee TOWNSLEY. I have two children listed for Ambrose and Mary GRAY who were: Lillian Wanita BAKER b. abt. 1900 and a Minnie/Minner BAKER with no date. The fact that Mary went on to marry Ebb TOWNSLEY would pretty much wipe out him being a widow though. You should probably check out the on line 1910 and 1910 Knox co. Fed. Census you will find at Cassy SOMMERs main Knox Co. WebSite. You should also check her Tombstone Central site to see if she has posted the Bargo Creek Cem in Knox Co.
