Knox co. Marriage Book BB and C dated: February 10, 1861 BARTON, William F. to NELSON, Ann By: W. G. STEEL, CM At: A. NELSON's Wit: Robert MITCHELL, Frederick ELLIOTT Perhaps her husband died in the Civil War; however, that is nothing more than a guess on my part. I missed the first marriage because as it so happened, her 2nd marriage was found in Mar. Book B and her earlier marriage is in Mar. Book BB and C which generally speaking contains the later marriages after and into the 1860's - 1880's. I could not seem to locate an earlier BARTON marriage for Annie NELSON. If Franklin Gale BARTON was a brother to Annie NELSON's husband, there is only one possibility in that family: Dwelling 19 - 1860 Knox Co. BARTON, Baker, 35, b. kY . .Malinda, 30, b. KY . .Sarilda, 18, b. kY . .Mary Jane, 16, b. KY . .william, 14, b. KY * * * . .Susan, 10, b. KY . .Nancy, 9, b. KY . .Gail, 7, b. KY * * * . .Katharine, 5, b. KY However, on the 1860, there are BARTON households with eligible males living right next to Abner NELSON and another BARTON household yet on the other side of him only a few dwellings removed. Most likely these families are related somewhere back in time but I have no idea how. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You are correct Annie was born in North Carolina. It was Annie-Anna's sister Rachel who was born in Indiana. Yes, her father was Abner NELSON & her mother was Nancy Elleanor VANOVER. Annie's sister Rachel was married to Franklin Gale BARTON. I wonder if Annie's first husband and Rachel's husband were related. However, simply based upon the census records, this person, Annie NELSON , appears to have been born in North Carolina vs. IN and she would have married a BARTON first and would have married James LOWE afterwards. This 1870 figure being true would mean that James LOWE also was married prior around 1860 or before. I am saying that based upon the fact that Anna appears to be in the home of her parents in 1860 and is 15 years of age and on the 1870 census there is a 9 year old dau., Mary, b. KY in their Knox Co. household. Originally I would have thought it was the child of Anna and James but then what would we do with Mary BARTON, age 17, a stepdau.on the 1880 Knox Co. Now I am thinking that the Mary, age 9 on the 1870 was actually Mary BARTON and the child of Anny and not James. 1860 Knox Co. Dwelling 70 NELSON, Abner, 67, b. NC . .Elinner, 45, b. NC I tend to think this is the correct Anna in the household of Abner and Elinner (prob. Eleanor) on the 1860 because when Franklin G. BARTON married Rachel NELSON on Jan 21, 1875, it is in the home of "Jas. LOE and the bondsman was Stephen LOVE" which is probably Stephen LOWE". Rachel would have been the younger sister of Anna NELSON. Oooop. . I just found James LOWE and Anna NELSON BARTON's marriage record: Knox Co. This information is on line when you go to: http://www.usgenweb.org and click on: Kentucky I only have a book of reconstructed marriage records for Breathitt Co., KY and don't see any BISHOPs listed there. However, for some background from this book: ". . . Breathitt Co., KY was formed in 1839 from the counties of Clay, Estill and Perry. The court house burned in 1873 during the feuds that followed the Civil War and most of the records on file were destroyed.". . . The book I have for Breathitt is for the period 1839 - 1873 and is a reconstructed version from records. This book also includes Mar. Bk 1 for the period 1874-1877. I only have Book G for Perry Co., KY and saw no BISHOPS listed there and I did not see any BISHOPs in the Rockcastle Co., KY one that I have. Sorry, wish I could help you more.
