    3. Dale Combs Dale Combs, age 94, of Carr Creek, passed away September 16, 2010, at Hazard ARH. She was born in Litt Carr on March 15, 1916, to Wiley B. Smith and Nancy Pigman Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband: Morton Combs; son: Len Combs. She is survived by 1 son: Glenn (Marsha) Combs; 1 daughter: Susan (Jim) Hammack; grandchildren: Brian (Russell) Combs, Christopher (Angela) Combs, Ryan (Lane) Hammack and Tyler Hammack; great grandchildren: Chandler Combs, Kate Combs, Cindy Combs and Olivia Hammack; special caretakers, whom the family loves and appreciates: Dorothy Blair, Brenda Blair and Marlene Pigman. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 19, 2010, at the Hindman Funeral Services Chapel with Glenn Noe and Cecil Morgan officiating. He was born in Perry Co, on February 4, 1916, to Dan Combs and Arty Fugate Combs. He is survived by his wife-Katherine Ritchie Combs; 3 Sons- William (Kizzie) Combs, Kenneth (Carol) Combs and Garland (Mary) Combs; 4 Daughters- Yvonne Smith, Artie (Raford) Collins, Glynetta (Larry) Ritchie and Nancy (Don) Wilson; 16 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren and a host of Great Great Grandchildren; Special Friends-Jeff, Penny and Carol. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at the Hindman Funeral Services Chapel with Orlo Fisher officiating. She was born Knott Co. on September 15, 1923, to William Thacker and Mary Jane Ritchie Thacker. She was a co-founder of Thacker-Grigsby Telephone Co., Charter member of Rose of Sharon Chapter of Eastern Star, member of Hindman Vol. Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Knott Co. Hall of Fame inducted in 1999. Janice was preceded in death by her parents and Husband- Enos Grigsby; 2 Daughters and Sons-in-law- Kay and Earnie and Pat and Omery; Brothers and Sisters- Margaret, Cuba, Donald, Paul, David and Irvin. She is survived by 1 Son- Bill (Janet) Grigsby; 2 Daughters- Dian (Jim) Fields and Mary Jane (Jim) Hall; Brother- Robert C. Thacker; Grandchildren- Julie, Monica, Amy, Susan, Heather, Kelli, Kevin, Kristi, Andy, Karla, Freddie and Ryan; a host of Great Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews and other relatives and friends. He was a retired coal miner, member of the UMWA and a member of the Little Rosa Old Regular Baptist Church, Indian Bottom, McDowell, KY. He was the husband of Mary Lou Cox Howard. He is survived by 2 sons: Jackie (Kathy) Howard of Hueysville and Bryan Howard of Versailles; 4 daughters: Kathleen (Ondie) Wireman of Hueysville, Edith Bolen of Auburn, IN, Glenda Howard of Versailles, and Lenora (Larry) Chaffin of Blue River; 1 sister: Stella Plaugher of Modesto, CA; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
