    2. Rev. Lawrence E. "Ed" Day, 71, of Scipio, Indiana died Thursday, August 26, 2010 at University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio after an extended illness. He was born in Letcher County, Kentucky on September 12, 1938 to Lawrence and Vera (Calihan) Day. He married Beatrice H. “Bea” Farmer on August 13, 1960 at the Scipio United Baptist Church in Scipio, Ohio. Ed proudly served our country as an Army Veteran of the Korean War. After his military service he worked at Campbell-Hausfeld and also did auto body and painting work and many other odd jobs throughout his life. He accepted the calling to preach the Word of God in 1976, and was for many years the Pastor of Scipio United Baptist Church in Scipio, a vocation that he loved dearly. He was a Kentucky Colonel and was a lifelong member of the Wilburn Dennison Veteran's of Foreign War (VFW) Post #2014 in Brookville, Indiana. He loved to play and write music and sang and played gospel-bluegrass music with the Ed Day and The Gospel Travelers, as well as many others, for years. He was a big sports fan and a particularly avid watcher of University of Kentucky basketball. However, praising and serving our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was what he most loved to do. Survivors include Son and Daughter-in-law, Jerry & Debbie Day of Mt. Carmel, Indiana; Daughter, Janice Hasley of Scipio, Indiana; and Son, Jeffery Day of Hamilton, Ohio; 7 Grandchildren, including Regina, Travis, Taylor, Jocelyn, Megan, Jeff Jr. (J.J.), and Morgan; 3 Brothers, Hayward (Vivian) Day of Scipio, Leon (Luann) Day of Cedar Grove, and Don (Sheila) Day of Scipio; 1 Sister, Linda York of Okeana, Ohio; and also many nieces, nephews, and a multitude of other family and friends whom he dearly loved. In addition to his Parents, Lawrence and Vera, he was preceded in death by his beloved Wife of 43 years, Beatrice "Bea" Day, who died March 7, 2004; and two Sisters, Barbara Gindling, and Ima Jean Day. The Visitation will be Monday, August 30, 2010 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Cook Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville, Indiana and also Tuesday, August 31, 2010 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Scipio United Baptist Church, Cincinnati-Brookville Road, Okeana (Scipio), Ohio. The Funeral Service will immediately follow that visitation beginning at 11:00 AM at the Church. The Rev.'s Hubert King and Steve West will officiate. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery in Scipio with Military Graveside Honors provided by the Brookville American Legion's Bernard Hurst Post #77. Memorial donations may be directed to the Scipio United Baptist Church, C/O Rev. Hubert King, 29707 Chappelow Hill Road, W. Harrison, Indiana 47060. Pallbearers will be Joey York, Brian Day, Shaun Day, Darin Day, Tim Day, Terry Day, and Mike Gindling. On behalf of Ed, his children would like to thank the Cincinnati V.A. Hospital doctors, nurses, and staff for their 12 years of care as he fought his illness. Also, thanks to the University Hospital MICU for the treatment and comfort he received during his short time in their care.
