He was born in Knott County on January 11, 1935, to Alexander Bentley and Clara Mae Fleming Bentley. He is survived by his wife: Marlene Bentley; son: Thomas Bentley; daughters: Betty (Johnny) Sowards and Mary (Brian) Combs; brothers: Ralph and Doug Bentley; sisters: Sue Slone, Ethel Bentley, Clara Jo Slone, Ilene Slone and Lois Ann Collins; grandchildren: Chrissen Denise Bentley Meade, Alexander Davidson, Evan Thomas Bentley and Cassie Combs.
