    3. Grace Cornett Amburgey Grace Cornett Amburgey, 89, Clearfield, formerly of Knott County, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011, at Ridgeway Manor in Owingsville, Ky. She was born April 27, 1921, in Knott County to the late "Banjo" Bill and Malissa Combs Cornett. Grace graduated from Hindman Settlement School in 1938 and then attended Alice Lloyd College for two years. She earned the A. B. degree in 1944 and the M.A. degree in 1968, both from Morehead State University. Mrs. Amburgey was a biology and math teacher in Ohio and Kentucky from grades elementary through high school. She was also a librarian at Morehead State University as well as the Rowan County School System, having retired from the Rowan County School System. She attended 5 National Senior Olympics in San Antonio, Texas, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Orlando, Florida, and Virginia Beach, Virginia. At the age of 80, she was a Gold Medalist in the National Senior Olympics in horseshoes and shuffleboard. Grace was a former member of the National Education Association, Kentucky Education Association, National Senior Games Association, and Kentucky Senior Games Association. She was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Association and a Kentucky Colonel. Besides her parents, Grace was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Mildred Risner, Lola Faye Jones, and Lake Cooper; 2 brothers, Coney Cornett and Scott Cornett; and her husband, Homer Amburgey, who passed away November 13, 2001. Surviving are 2 daughters: Barbara Amburgey and Betty Crawford and her husband Bobo of Clearfield; 1 grandson, Joe David Crawford and his wife Kelly of Johnson City, Tennessee; and 3 great-grandchildren, Kara Grace, Kameron Elijah, and Kasey Jo of Johnson City, Tennessee. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Mable Smith of Crown Point, Indiana, and Madge Mayo of Morehead; 2 brothers, Brode Cornett of Morehead and Bernie Cornett of Nicholasville; and a host of nieces and nephews. Graveside services were conducted 4 p.m. Sunday, January 23, 2011, at Brown Cemetery with the Rev. H. G. Pratt officiating under the direction of the Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Bentley, died Sunday, January 16, 2011, at her residence. She was born January 1, 1933 in Garrett, a daughter of the late Talmadge and Mae Martin Allen. Polly was a longtime School Teacher and member of the Rock Fork Regular Baptist Church. She is survived by 1 son, Adrian E. Bentley Jr., his wife Becky, Prestonsburg, Ky., and 3 grandchildren, Mark Brandon Bentley, Caitlin Bentley and Leslie Bentley. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, January 18th, at 11 a.m. in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Jerry Manns officiating. She was born May 13, 1927, in Puncheon, daughter of the late Cleveland & Leona Hall. Mrs. Childers lived in Belleville for over 15 years with her daughter. She was a member of the Ypsilanti Old Regular Baptist Church. She is survived by 4 children Paul D. (Janice) Childers of Wickenburg, Arizona, Sandra S. Delaney of Belleville, Mich., Edgar (Diana) Childers of Richmond, and Patricia (Thomas) Squires of Chelsea, Mich.; 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two sisters Hattie Ratliff of Virginia and Myrtle Rossi of New Jersey, and brother Willis Hall of Kentucky, also numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Edgar Childers in February 1991, 2 sons Daniel Lee Childers in December in 1974 and James David Childers in April 2001, a grandson James Edward Childers, also a son-in-law Donald Delaney in August 2008. She was born June 20, 1944, in Lackey. Marcella was a former teacher, who taught in the White Pigeon High School, Sturgis, Mich., and in the Knott County Central High School in Hindman. Additionally, she was employed as a life insurance sales agent for Commonwealth/Monumental Life Insurance Company. She is survived by 1 son, Abe Enoch Shepherd, his wife Samantha, Richomond, 1 daughter, Karen Machille Shepherd, Jacksonville, Fl., her former husband, Abe Shepherd, 2 sisters, Betty Karen Conley, Garrett, Cora Ann Whitaker, Pontiac, Mi., and two grandchildren, Lexi and Kaitlynn.
