Audrey Stewart Downing, 83, of Westler Lake, Wolcottville died Saturday, February 5, 2011, at 4:25 p.m. in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Mrs. Downing had lived in Wolcottville since 1957, coming from St. Louis. She had worked at the Wilmark Detective Agency while living in St. Louis. She also worked 13 years at Essex Wire in Ligonier and was a Tupperware Sales Manager. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Kendallville and their Wednesday Bible study group. She was a member of the Dominos Club, the LaGrange Investors Club, and the Seniors Group in Rome City. She was born November 28, 1927, in Newman, Knott County, Kentucky, to Calvin C. "Coonie" and Ada (Collins) Conley. In April, 1944, she married Ralph Stewart in Kentucky. He preceded her in death in 1969. She married Donald Ray Downing on July 24, 1968, in Wolcottville. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1993. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, David and Candice Stewart of South Bend; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joey Ann and Nevin White of Tavares, Florida, and Charsie and Jerry Miller of Huntertown; a daughter-in-law, Diana Stewart of Wolcottville; a stepson, Steven Downing of Cameron, West Virginia; seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Zola and Jennings Ramey of Helmer, Wanita and Harold Messer of Kendallville; Geneva and Dave Klinger of South Milford, Ileen Bolen of Stroh, and Lorene and Bill Penick of Hamilton; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Vern and Bessie Conley of South Milford and Clyde and Alma Conley of Rome City. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Thomas Stewart, and three brothers, Hawley Conley, Ivory Conley, and Donald Conley. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at 2 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville with Rev. Tom Clothier of First Christian Church in Kendallville and Rev. Phillip Willard of the Harrison Bible Baptist Church in Harrison, Illinois. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Wolcottville.
