Campbell, 56, of Busy, died Wednesday, December 29 at the Hazard ARH medical center. She was the daughter of the late Herbert Austin and the late Oma Boyd. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Earl Austin. She is survived by her husband, Pearl Campbell; daughters Tanya White, Kimberly White and Lora Melinda Campbell; sons Jerry Campbell and Vaughn Gordan Campbell; sister Patricia Campbell; brothers Herbert Wayne Austin and Charlie Austin along with eight grandchildren and a host of family and friends. Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Brothers Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the Hickory Gap Pentecostal Church where the family will receive friends after 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 30. Service will be at noon on Friday, December 31 with James Morris and Emmitt Campbell officiating. Interment will be at Couch Cemetery located at Busy. ********************************************* Malta Coots Malta Coots, 78, died Saturday, January 1 at her home in Vicco. She was born in Viper, the daughter of the late Isaac Wilson and the late Nancy Asher Wilson. She was a mother and homemaker, and a lifelong resident of Perry County. She was also a member of the Holiness Church and loved being with her family. She was also preceded in death by her son, Marty Wayne Coots and husband Albert Coots. She is survived by her sons, Joel "Cotton" Coots and wife Brenda of Vicco, Roger Coots and wife Barbara of Vicco and Michael Coots and wife Olivia of Vicco; daughters Linda Reynolds and husband Roger of Vicco and Justine Hill and husband Gary of Jeff; daughter-in-law Mekisha Coots, with of Marty; brother James Wilson of Hazard; sisters Lora Group of London and Arlene Zeller of Indiana; grandchildren Scott, Tracy, Shawn, Mike, Brandon, Matthew, Kevin, Lacey, Shelly, Cody and Kaleb; great-grandchildren Hailey, Hestin, Taylor, Connor and Landen and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, January 4 at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home of Hazard with Ellis Coots officiating. The burial will follow in the Coots Cemetery at Vicco. Visitation will be on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. ********************************************** Clydia Combs Clydia Combs, 87, of Prestonsburg, died Wednesday, December 29 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. She was the daughter of the late Kelly Back and the late Pollyann Back. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude Combs, daughter Sandra W. Combs, five sisters and one brother. She is survived by her daughter, Donna B. Combs; grandchildren Maria Kathleen Fugate, Brandon Smith, Daniel Brashear, John Thomas Combs and Juda Leigh Wells; seven great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends. Arrangements were handled by Maggard Brothers Funeral Home of Hazard where the family received friends on Sunday, January 2. Services were held on Monday, January 3 with Rev. Ellen Peach officiating. Interment was at Resthaven Cemetery in Jeff. ********************************************** Kathy Herald Combs Kathy Herald Combs, 59, of Bulan, died Tuesday, January 4 at home. She was the daughter of the late Clyde Herald and the late Fannie Herald. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Combs, and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter Sarah Herald; sister Elva Wiegand; brothers Grandville, James, Willis, Johnny, Peter, Lewis and Harliss; best friend Sherry and grandchild Edward Mullins. Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Brothers Funeral Home of Hazard where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 7. Services will be at noon on Saturday, January 8 with Rev. Merrill David Collins officiating. Interment will be at the Herald family cemetery at Combs. ********************************************** Maggie Sizemore Maggie Sizemore, 85, passed away on Monday, January 3 at the Hazard ARH medical center. She was born in Clayhole, Ky., the daughter of the late John Smith and the late Nancy Jane Fugate Smith. She was a lifelong resident of Hazard and was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. She is survived by sons Carl Sizemore of Hazard, Sammy Sizemore and wife Brenda of Hazard and Billy Ray Sizemore of Greenville, Ohio; daughters Nellie Jane Combs of Greenville, Ohio, Katherine Combs and husband Ulis of Hazard and Maggie Sue Sizemore of Greenville; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home of Hazard at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 7 with David Kilburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery at Jeff. Visitation will from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday. *********************************************** Dinnia Shepherd Dinnia Shepherd, 43, of Viper, died Thursday, January 6 at her home in Viper. She was the daughter of Stella Boggs and the late Willie Kilburn. She is also survived by her daughter, Lisa Fields; sons Willie Shepherd, Orville Lee Shepherd and Billy Shepherd; sister Mary Browning and husband Chris; sister-in-law Carolyn Hudson; three grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Brothers Funeral Home of Hazard where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, January 9. Services will follow with James Combs officiating. Interment will be at Lewis-Adams Cemetery located at Viper. ************************************************ Nola Shivley Nola Shivley, 85, formerly of Perry County, died Wednesday, January 5 in Michigan. She was the daughter of the late P. Cody and the late Alta Edington Cody. She was also preceded in death by her husband, A.Y. Shivley; daughters Judy and Jackie Shivley; brother Bill Cody and sisters Georgia and Lillie Mae. She is survived by her granddaughter, Leslie Zawada and husband Randy; grandson David Boisvenu and wife Rachel, great-grandchildren Shane, Addison, Zachary and Claire, along with a host of family and friends. Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, January 7. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 8. Burial will take place at Felix Brashear Cemetery at Viper. ************************************************ Bertie Holland Bertie Fields Holland, 84, of Bulan passed away Wednesday January 5 at the Hazard ARH medical center. She was the wife of the late Roy Holland and the daughter of the late Wilson and Eliza Jane (Hall) Fields. She is survived by sons Jessie Roy Holland of Bulan and Michael Al Holland of Trenton, Ohio; daughters Violet Hollins of Hamilton, Ohio, Menerva Coots of Bulan and Lena (Nephi) Lazarus of Hamilton, Ohio; sisters Mary Bowling of Bulan, Gracie Hollins of Happy and Ceiley (Harold) Caudill of Batesville, In.; 16 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 8, at 1 p.m. at the Fort Branch Pentecostal Church of God with Rev. Jimmy Fields, Rev. Freddie Coots, Rev. Estill Sizemore and Rev. Denny Melton officiating. Burial will be at the Family Cemetery at Fort Branch. Breathitt Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. ************************************************* Erman Wirtz Erman F. "Big Daddy" Wirtz, 91, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, January 5 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Cassinelli Wirtz, in 1988, who lost her battle with cancer. He was born on April 12, 1919 in Jellico, Tennessee to the late Gus R. and Kate Capelli Wirtz. Mr. Wirtz was an Army veteran of WWII, arriving on Omaha Beach in France in 1942. He participated in both the allied invasion and the Battle of the Bulge, and was attached to the 91st Chemical Mortar Division. He was also trained to fight with lethal gas, which fortunately was replaced with TNT weapons. He spent his years after the war managing two movie theaters and a drive-in theater in Hazard, which he eventually bought. He moved to Richmond in the mid-1980's to be closer to his children and for treatment of his wife's cancer. While in Hazard, he served as chairman of the Housing Authority, the Hazard Airport Board, and four years as president of the Hazard Chamber of Commerce and received the honor of being named Man of the Year in 1971. He was also a member of the Hazard Kiwanis Club for 58 years. Mr. Wirtz was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church of Richmond. Mr. Wirtz is survived by one daughter, Phillis Adams, and her husband, Michael, and one son, Erman A. Wirtz, and his wife, Gina, all of Richmond. He also leaves his grandchildren, Michael Wayne Adams (Sherry), Brian Adams (Shelia), Jennifer Leigh Wirtz and Loran Marie Wirtz; his great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Austin, Brandon and Mary Carol Adams. Other survivors include two sisters, Mary Louise Webb of Hamilton, Ohio, and Alta Jean Marshall of Middletown, Ohio, a special friend Francis Roberts and his UNO friends Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 8 at St. Mark Catholic Church with Father Jim Sichko officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the St. Boniface Cemetery in Jellico, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the VFW Post 7098, 102 Daisy Drive, Richmond, KY 40475 *************************************************
