AUSTIN PERKINS, age 80, of Rome City died on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at his home. Mr. Perkins was born in Carrie, Kentucky on September 6, 1930 to Estil Perkins and Georgia Ann (Polly) Perkins. He married Betty Irene Young on October 7, 1953. She survives in Rome City. Mr. Perkins worked at Carrier Lee Warehouse in Chicago for 16 years and then worked for Mary Ann Bakery in Chicago for another 16 years retiring in 1991. He was an active member of the Bethel Christian Baptist Church in Kendallville. He loved going to church and being with his church family. Mr. Perkins enjoyed Gospel and Bluegrass music and he loved working in his garden. Survivors include: His wife of 57 years, Betty Perkins of Rome City. Son, Wade Perkins of Kendallville. Son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Doreen Perkins of Rome City. Two granddaughters; Deanne May Perkins and Kristen Perkins. Brother, Jimmie and Jeanette Perkins of Rome City. Brother, Joe and Donice Kay Perkins of Rome City. Brother, Estil,Jr. and Bessie Perkins of Carrie, Kentucky. Brother, Keith and Bobbie Perkins of Lyons, Georgia. Sister, Martha Ellen Fugate of Chicago. Sister, Iva Pearl and Jerry Haston of LaGrange. Sister, Donna and Ronnie Smith of Carrie, Kentucky. Sister, Buelah Faye Mehallopis of Hanover Park, Illinois. Sister-in-law, Judy Perkins of Emmalena, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by brothers; Covey, Bobby Ray and Carl Punch Perkins, four sisters; Armelda Ritchie, Madie Combs, Ella Mae Hayes, and Letha Ann Stephens. Visitation will be Friday, January 21, 2011 from after 2:00 PM at Bethel Christian Baptist Church of Kendallville. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 11:00am at Bethel Christian Baptist Church. Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor Shawn Shepherd.
