Lynda, I thought that was a good explanation too, even though Spencer raised his other kids on his own: 1920 census, Upper Carr Prec No 2, Knott, KY, 24 Jan 1920. Darn, this is never easy. JB, Madge fits so nice into this family with the record from the KBI and the census records of Simeon but she is missing from this obit. Don't know what to make of that. Here is another question. I have Spencer marrying 2nd Polly Collins and here is the record from Gloria's website: Combs Spencer Collins Polly 31 May 1922 Married at Dema, Kentucky by Elijah Hale in the presence of Melvin Amburgey and Cassie Amburgey Attest: John Sturgill DC-County Court Clerk Bk 16 pg 49 Yet Polly wrote the obit and says he married Polly Engle. She should know her last name?? She was 19 when she married first according to the 1930 census which would match with this marriage so don't think she was an Engle who first married a Collins. He had 11 brothers, Sam, Watson, Cullen, Simeon, Riley, Melvin, Ira, Andrew, Mat, Alvin and Doctor. Sarah Francis is sister to my Samuel, both are children of Thomas Francis, Jr. Thomas had the Log house at the mouth of Littcarr and George Wash Johnson had the loghouse at the mouth of Breedings Creek. Both loghouses are now relocated togather at Redfox called Pioneer Village. When I was a kid, the Johnsons always had large cane fields and made molasses about this time of the year.
