Geneva Wicker, 72, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 2:17 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Miller's Merry Manor East in Wabash. She was born May 30, 1936 in Hindman, Kentucky to John Wess and Shirley May (Conley) Reynolds. She married Worley Wicker; he died December 6, 1985. She worked at Wabash Magnetics, General Tire, and Shirt Shed. She is survived by four sons, Chris Wicker of Norfolk, Virginia, Bill Wicker, Eddie Wicker, and Robert Wicker, all of Wabash; six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tracey Eltzroth, who died December 2, 2006, three brothers, and one sister. Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, on Monday, June 1, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Tim Prater officiating. Spencer son of Andrew Jackson Combs and Nancy Francis. Combs, Spencer ~ With a sad and lonely heart I will try to write an obituary of my beloved husband, Spencer Combs, born January 18, 1880, in Knott County .He was the son of Andrew and Nancy Combs. He had 11 brothers, Sam, Watson, Cullen, Simeon, Riley, Melvin, Ira, Andrew, Mat, Alvin and Doctor. His father and mother and 8 brothers preceded him in death- He married Cordelia Amburgey, daughter of Hiram and Dicie Amburgey. To them was born three children, Carl Combs, and Mrs. Fred Gioza, both of Phoenix, Arizona, and Mrs. Clyde West, who preceded in him death. Cordelia died about 1912. He lived alone with his children 10 years and then married Polly Engle. To them was born eleven children, 7 girls and 4 boys. Edgar, Washington, D. C; Oliver, Everett and Pearlie all of Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Allen Budd and Mrs. Gilbert Edwards of Marshall, Va ; Carson, Ula Vale, Alpha Louise and Ortha Lida Combs all of Carr Creek, Ky. He was a good citizen, loved his neighbors and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He joined the Old Regular Baptist Church and was baptized at the Old Carr School house in 1947. He prayed most of the time while he was sick and one night he dreamed he was in the church house in the side next to the road and there was something in the other side trying to get to him to hang him some way and he was scared and tried to get away from Jr. He went to the door and it opened itself so he went out and there was a light shining from Heaven brighter than day, shining out the road that he could see to walk away from whatever was after him, so he got away from it through that light. He died the 16th and would have been 72, the 18th. I did. all I could for him and regret, that I couldn't do more. He left us to mourn his loss, though I believe our loss is Heavens gain. I have great hope that I will meet him in the glory world and am praying that our children will join us up there, where I believe my darling little daughter that preceded him in death is resting now. Glo, all I can say for sure is the nathan engle you have should be married to Nevesta Hall. I followed the discussion on the other Nanthan Engle, but did not record it I am telling you what I remember. It was on another site. I remember Norma Adams posting some info. I remember him being shot the day after release from prison etc. I think there was a new paper article. At first I thought it was the Nathan I had. Debbie may have gotten the jest of it. Phillip Jourdon Mullins, 70, of North Las Vegas, NV, passed away at his home in North Las Vegas with his family by his side on Friday, August 20, 2010. Born on March 30, 1940, in Amburgey, Knott County, KY, he was the son of the late Herbert Mullins and Sally (Jones) Mullins of Austin, IN. Phil lived most of his life and raised his family in Union Mills, IN where he worked as a painter and an assembler for New York Blowers for 29 years. Four brothers preceded him in death: Marion Mullins, George Mullins, Colonel Mullins and Paul Gene Mullins. Survivors include his wife of forty-nine years, Geraldine (Lawson) Mullins of North Las Vegas, NV; Two children: a son, Ronnie Dale Mullins of North Las Vegas, NV and a daughter, Marilyn Myers of North Las Vegas, NV; Two grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Shelby Lynette Myers of North Las Vegas, NV and Shaun Dale Myers of North Las Vegas, NV; Eleven remaining brothers and sisters, Sylvia M. Mullins of Austin, IN; Herbert Mullins, Jr. of Austin, IN; Marie Rice of Austin, IN; Mable Walker of Austin, IN; James A. Mullins of Kalamazoo, MI; Audrey “Faye” Buck of Austin, IN; Obra “Dean” Mullins Michigan City, IN; Betty J. Barger of Austin, IN; Mary A. Martin of Columbus, IN; Dorothy “Dot” Campbell of Greenwood, IN; and Carmel J. Mullins of Austin, IN; and was awesomely blessed with many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was “Uncle Jourdon” to 89 nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and even great-great nieces and nephews. Jourdon was a friend to many including Gerald “Jerry” Greenwald. A memorial service will be conducted at Austin Christian Church on Saturday, September 25, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., where many of his family will speak of the great memories of him. His body was cremated, pursuant to his request. JB, I am not ready to take this to the bank yet. I realize Nathan Engle is a close relative of Betty and she is probably correct that Nathan who married Nevesta Hall is the s/o Francis Engle. However, I can't find another Nevesta or Vesta in the 1900 census that matches like the one we found married to Nathan and living in his parents home, Ben and Linda. They even have a son Benjamin who appears in the 1910 census with his mother Vesta after she married Clay Collins. Hate to be so hard headed but I need some evidence of another Nathan married to another Vesta in 1900 with another son Benjamin. Does anyone have a record that would help explain this?
