I have had lots of Cheese Cake over the years. New York, Chicago, Wichita, Miami, Dayton, but none come close to this: Best Cheese Cake In The World Crust: Animal Crackers; crush in food processor, about 2 cups or Graham Crackers 2 Tablespoons sugar 4 Tablespoons butter- melted Filling: 1 1/2 pounds Cream Cheese (room temp) 1 1/2 cups of sugar 16 oz. Sour Cream 2 tsp vanilla 1 can of Eagle Brand Sweetened condensed milk 8 eggs 2 Tablespoons lemon juice Crush Animal Crackers and add sugar; mix in 10 inch spring form pan with melted butter. Pat down and form crust on bottom and partly up sides of pan. Beat softened cream cheese until smooth; add sugar, sour cream, milk, lemon juice and vanilla; add eggs, one at a time, until thoroughly mixed. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 10 minutes. Shut oven off and leave in oven for 1 hour more; remove and cool to room temperature, then refrigerate. When cake is cooled, top with cherry or your favorite flavor pie filling. I top as being served. Freezes very well also. JB PS: The Animal Crackers is the secret and notice, no flour. I crush almost 3 cups and use 3 tblspoons of butter. Any left I crumble over the top before baking. JB Knott County Kentucky Kinfolk http://knottkentuckykinfolk.com/ What I kept I lost, What I spent I had, What I gave I have. Published in The Courier-Journal on December 26, 2010 While I am not certain about who spouse, James R Combs is, I believe his may be James Riley Combs, s/o James S Combs and Effie Mae Millard. James S was the s/o William Riley "Big Eyed Riley" Combs and Rebecca Stacy. This is based on the obits of his brother and sister obits. Roy Donald "Don" Combs, age 82, of Somerset, departed this life on Monday, December 22, 2008 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. He was born on February 24, 1926 in Vicco, KY, the son of the late James S. and Effie Mae Millard Combs. He was a retired employment council worker for KY Department of Human Resources, a teacher, and a United States Army veteran of WWII. Mr. Combs attended the West Somerset Baptist Church and was an avid U.K. fan and loved his dog, "Teddy Joe". He was a member of the Somerset Kiwanis Club and the Somerset Lions Club. Mr. Combs is survived by a son, Bill Whitaker; a daughter, Emma Jo Whitaker; a brother, James R. Combs of Louisville, KY; two sisters, Zita M. Hall and Lovella Ritchie, both of Melbourne, FL; several loving nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Don; and his little dog he loved so much, Teddy Joe. Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife who he loved with all his heart, Nancy Stidham Combs, marrying her on December 22, 1954 in Vicco, KY and who passed away on May 21, 1999. Visitation for Mr. Combs will be Sunday, December 28th from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the Memory Chapel with Bro. Larry Butte officiating. Interment will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens. The family of Willie Ritchie and Lovella Combs Ritchie would like friends and area neighbors notified of their passing. Willie Ritchie died at his home in Florida of natural causes on April 17, 2008 at the age of 96. He was joined in his heavenly home by his wife of 70 years, Lovella Combs Ritchie on June 10, 2009 at the age of 90. Willie and Lovella lived at Red Oak Branch in Sassafras their entire lives, traveling between Kentucky and Florida the latter part of their lives. Willie Ritchie worked for the state of Kentucky as a regional supervisor in the unemployment office. Lovella Ritchie worked as a postal clerk at the Vicco Post Office. They were both life-long members of the Vicco Presbyterian Church, being very active in its ministry to the area. Many remember their beautiful farm and willingness to share its bounty with any who wanted or needed it. Lovella Ritchie took great pride and gave much love in working with the young children in the church over the years. They served their Lord throughout their lives in their compassion, love, and willingness to give and share. Willie Ritchie is survived by many nieces and nephews. Lovella Combs Ritchie is survived by her brother James Riley Combs of Louisville and cousins, nieces, and nephews. A private memorial service is planned by family for October 17 at their former home at Red Oak Branch. They will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved them. The family respectfully requests any memorial you may wish to make in their names be made to the Vicco Presbyterian Church in car. Published in the Hazard Herald week of Oct 14, 2009

The tracks ran right by my grandparents' house in Yellow Creek. I would be interested to know when the trains stopped running to the coal mines. I'm 46 years old and can't really recall if they were still running when I was a kid, though I know for certain the tracks were still there when I was growing up. I would guess the tracks were removed a long time ago. I know the tracks curved around and ran through Vicco, too. If anyone knows which coal mines were serviced by this spur, that would be helpful, as well.
