Patton, Prestonsburg; also surviving 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and three sisters. Preceding him in death were his brother; Billy Joe Patton and sister; Vivian Davidson. George wore many hats. He was a faithful and devoted husband for 64 years. A loving father. An adoring Dad-Dad to his grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous other children and young people. When his father left his mother and five siblings, George was the oldest and only 16 years of age. However, he quit school, found a job and kept his family together. Although he did not get to receive a formal education, he was a mechanical genius who could repair anything from a broken toy to a car engine. He was a Christian and a member of the Graceway United Methodist Church. He was a US Navy Veteran serving as Boatswain Mate Third Class on the US Thomason DE-203 in Pacific Theatre, where he received three campaign ribbons and five bronze stars. One of the highlights of his life was recently enjoying a reunion with the Captain of his ship and many of his former shipmates. He was their shining star in time of need and never failed to support and help them in whatever endeavor they needed his help. He was an employee of Kentucky and West Virginia Gas Company for 35 years before a heart condition forced him to take early retirement. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a Mason belonging to Masonic Lodge #950 at Martin. He was a Lieutenant, known as "804" in the Maytown Volunteer Fire Department where he was a charter member and served as Dispatcher from his home following his disability. He was an avid CB'er going by the handle "Adam 12". His most recent accomplishment was an Accredited Visitor for the Big Sandy Chapter of Mended Hearts, Inc. He was a charter member and offered encouragement and support to patients who were to have heart surgery as he had undergone three open heart surgeries of his own. He was welcomed as a Mended Hearts Visitor as he had attended all training sessions, was a born conversationalist and never met a stranger. Although he suffered several physical disabilities, he kept his wit and good humor and will be sorely missed by, not only his family and loved ones, his neighbors and friends; but also, by countless others as he was a familiar figure throughout most of Floyd County. 3. Linda, Could you please add the known children where you have them? I tried tracking this family and thought I was on the right track, but somehow ended up off of it as when I finally got to the death certificates, they didn't hold the same parentage you listed. I see the Tipton C. Collins (8 Jul 1895 Raven, KY - 16 Apr 1949 Knott Co., KY) is buried in Turner Cemetery. So is his son, Carroll Tipton Collins. I found Johnnie DeCorsey Collins b. 4/22/1911 W. KY d. 5/25/1950 Martin, Floyd Co., KY father: John D. Collins mother: Susanna Johnson Occupation: Miner; WWII vet (discharged 1941) buried in Collins Cemetery, Weeksbury, KY informant: Mrs. Elsie Collins and also found Edda R. Collins aka Eddie Collins b. 5/27/1913 Floyd Co., KY d. 11/30/1925 Weeksbury, Floyd Co., KY son of Jno. D. Collins and Susane Johnson Frank Johnson of Weeksbury, KY - informant So if that is indeed the correct children for your family, at least now you can figure on searching past 1910 (given their birth dates) for John D, Sr. 1920 Painter Harve, Floyd Co., KY 99/99 Collins, Susie head 36 Wd KY NC KY merchant general store Bournda ? son 20 S KY KY KY miner coal mine [from previous marriage] Bessie dau 10 S KY KY KY Johnnie son 8 S KY KY KY Edie R son 6 S KY KY KY 1910 Painter Harve, Floyd Co., KY John CALLINS 39 M3 2 KY KY KY Susana E. 26 M2 5/4 KY NC KY Bessie 1 1/12 KY KY KY That's about all I could tell was definitely your folks.
