Tim, Have you tracked the family in census records? That is the best way to locate them. I did a quick scan of the indexes and the 1880 census index shows the family in Covington, KY. The 1900 index shows Gerhard still in Covington but now as a widower and 5 of the adult children are still living with him. In 1910 Mary & Clara are living with their sister Bertha and her husband in Covington. It looks like George is married and still living in Covington, but Henry may be boarding in Cincinnati with a Mollie TURNER. NO sign of Gerhard....perhaps he died by this time? The index shows a Joseph JAMSON the right age and birthplace, living in Covington with a wife, 5 children and his mother-in-law. 1920 index shows a Joseph JANSEN in Covington and it looks like Henry may have moved back to Covington and is now married. You might want to subscribe to the KY-CENSUS-LOOKUP mailing list here: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Census-US/KY-CENSUS-LOOKUP.html and request census transcriptions for these families to track them further. Johann Gerhard was born 5 January 1844 in Emsland, Hanover and eventually emigrated and married in 1871 in Covington to a Clara Grothaus(?). He was a saloonist and had a total of 6 children: Henry (1872); Joseph (1876); Bertha (1878); George (1880); Mary (1883); and Clara (1886). Does anyone know if this family or the descendants remained in Covington? Did any member of this family move to Cincinnati, perhaps? Would enjoy chatting about this family. This Johann Gerhard Jansen is the uncle of my great grandmother Margaretha Adelheid Schwagmann who married a Ferdinand Mormann in Mother of God Church in 1891 in Covington.
