He came with his parents in the year 1838 to the United States. After they landed in Baltimore in the fall they went over the Allegheny Mountains by way of horse and wagon and they went t o Wheeling, West Virginia where they stayed for approximately two years until the father died. The mother remarried. The family went on to Cincinnati and from Cincinnati to Wapakoneta where they lived on a farm for seven years. After that, Bernard Heving came to Cincinnati where he worked as a brick maker until 1854 and then went to Covington, Kentucky. There is where he started his own brick company that was very successful and was what he did until his death November 5, 1884. His wife whom he married in 1851 and whose maiden name was Briet lived on with six children. The Covington branch of the German Pioneer Society took car e of his burial." I have maps showing properties owned by Heving and Havings in Covington, Kentucky I have had a person at St. Joseph's Rectory in Wapakoneta, Ohio search their church records f or Heving entries. Unfortunately there was a fire at the first church, so they have no records earlier than 1849 and no marriages earlier than 1852. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Mr. Heving died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospital where he was taken Saturday night. He was found with a bullet wound in his head in his room above Sis's Cafe, Decoursey. Robert C. Dorsey, Kenton County coroner, said the wound was self-inflicted, Mr. Dorsey returned a verdict of suicide due to ill health." Notes for Johann Herman Heinrich Heving: According to the "Die Deutschen Pionier-Verein von Covington" obituary of his son Bernard Heinrich the younger, he died in Wheeling, West Virginia. At this time I am still unable to prove this, but will continue to look into this situation. According to the obituary, the family also immigrated to the United States in 1838 - once again, no confirmation of this information. In Wheeling, West Virginia in 1838 there was one Catholic Church, St. James. Check to see if they have a record of burial or gravestone for any Heving or Hewings. - UPDATE - I had their records searched and since there was a fire at the Church in 1849 no records exist before that time. Notes for Johannes Bernardus Hermanny Luenter: In this part of Germany there was a tradition whereby a male took the name of his wife if the y inherited her families estate. This must be the case here, as he is called Johannes Hermanny Heving, born Lunden in the records. This is why all of the children carry the Heving name .
