Again; It occurred to me I might make my request for help and suggestions more interesting if I gave the entire story again! Nellie (Ellen) BYRON and Patrick CAREY (KEARY) were married in Ireland. They had sons named Lawrence, Thomas, Michael and Patrick born in Ireland (Co. Galway). The last one born in Ireland was Patrick - in April 1864. And there was a daughter Margaret born in Ireland. In the 1870 census, they are found in Covington KY (last name spelled KEARY). Nellie and Patrick had a son named Martin, born in Kentucky in late 1866. So, they immigrated between 1864 and 1866, and (father) Patrick would have been alive at least in early 1866. He is never found in any US records. Nellie was a widow in 1870. In all following indexes, documents, etc. the surname is spelled CAREY. Nellie died in 1909 (Allison and Rose Funeral Home, St. Mary's Cemetery). No clue what happened to Patrick the son or Patrick the father. Assume the baby died, as he is never seen on any US record, either. What Catholic church would have had the funeral if the senior Patrick died about 1866/67? Is there a chance he would have been buried at St. Mary's and they simply do not have a record? If I am successful in seeing any funeral records -- was there one in the mid-1860's in Covington? Would just love to solve this long-time family mystery. Please note -- I have done all the usual research - have census information, church records, etc. just nothing on Patrick's existence. There were other related Careys also in Covington who immigrated about the same time (Lawrence, Julia and family).
