    3. Teresa, There were three main Catholic churches in that area at that time. They were Mother of God Church on W. 6th St. , St. Aloysious Church which was at 7th and Bakewell before it burned down many years ago and St. Patrick Church which was at 4th and Philadelphia, it was torn down many years ago. 6th and Craig being their address, any of these churches could have been where they attended. Mother of God office is open everyday I believe. You might check with them on your question. I was raised in the W.6th St area but never attended the Catholic Church. 2. teresa, the closest catholic church would be mother of god at 6th and pike which is still there and an operating parish. the next would have been st. aloysius at 7th and bakewell. st. al's burned down in the 1980s, but i believe the records are not only kept by the diocese, they are available at the kenton co. public library. pat -----Original Message----- From: teresamcmillin@comcast.net To: KYKENTON@rootsweb.com Sent: Wed, 24 Jan 2007 12:13 PM Subject: [KYKENTON] Catholic Churches in Covington Hello listers, I have just discovered I have some ancestors who lived in Covington, Kentucky in the mid-late 1800's. They atteneded St. Mary, Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption -- or at least a number of significant events (baptisms, weddings, etc.) took place there. For example, my great-grandfather and great-grandmother were married there in 1867. Hope this helps! On marriage records, George Carrigan is listed from County Donegal; my gg grandmother from County Roscommon. I have not found other relatives for George in Covington. The baptismal records for their children list several Burns/Byrne as godparents. Possibly a related group of Burns/Byrn travelled from County Roscommon. I probably have a lot of Burns relatives in Covington.
