It was several years ago and they had no trouble finding it for me. However, I first found my great grandfather listed in the local person card index files and that gave the reference including the call number. Unfortunately I am unable to find the call number. The title of the work was Vorsichts Vericht des Deutchen Pioneer Verins In the late 1800's and through a good part of the 1900's Cincinnati's rich German heritage included many publications in the German Language. Perhaps the librarian was searching in English. Hello Rebecca. It appears that most of the Hellebusch's were from either Bavaria or Oldenburg, when I did a search on the IGI. What was her name? Who did she marry? Hey Darla. It's in the Rare Books and Archives area. Had you found your ancestor in the card index in the Genealogy/History department? If you find your ancestor there, there's a call number. I just took the call number to that Archives department and they provided me with the book. It's too bad that it appears the day you went they had a new person or something. It's been almost a year for me since I saw it. This Necrology does in fact include some of the members of the Covington and Newport branch of the Society as well, as Bernard Heinrich Heving is included in it. Unfortunately the information contained therein was horribly incorrect on him, but that's another issue. Bernard's photo wasn't included in it though, and I hadn't even known there were any photos in the books, so that was new and interesting information that Herman sent. When I am there next I will look to see if there are any Schleutkers included. Herman, you did find the Necrology in the Rare Books Dept. of the Cinti. Public Library? I spend a whole afternoon there a couple of years ago while they searched for it for me - and they didn't find it? May I ask....when did you view it? Thanks, Darla The Woodlands, TX
Those interested in the German Pioneer Society should consider that there was also a branch in Cincinnati that operated in the later 1800's and early 1900's. Cincinnati Public Library has at least one reference I found, a Necrology, in their rare books department. In this I found a picture of my great grandfather. The Cincinnati Pioneer Society membership requirement included residence prior to a certain date and at least 25 years. Cincinnati Public Library maintains an extensive index card catalog of local individuals and where they are mentioned in various publications. LeeAnn, my gg grandfather and his brother (Gerhard/George and Heinrich/Henry Schleutker) were early members of the Deutsche Pionier Verein in Covington. When you're next at the Kenton Co. library, would you be willing to scan that 25th anniversary booklet and see if it mentions them? I'd certainly appreciate it. I don't know when I'll be in Covington again. Darla The Woodlands, TX

Dear Miriam, I don't live anywhere close to Kentucky, rather right now I am in possibly the path of the next hurricane coming here in Texas. I have heard of B.H. Hellebusch but do not know much about him. If I remember correctly, he & my 3rd Great Grandmother were born about the same time. She was born about 1839 in Germany. Was thinking maybe this person was her brother or a cousin. Thats about all I know. I thought you might be interested to know (in case you don't already) that one B.H. Hellebusch was a member of the German Pioneer Society of Covington and that the Covington library has a 25th anniversary pamphlet of said organization that has a photo of my great great great grandfather Bernard Heinrich Heving standing next to Mr. Hellebusch (as well as one other individual whom I can't remember right now). Below the photo it says (in german - the whole pamphlet is in german) "Three of the Grandfathers of the German Pioneer Society". Now the copy they have out on the shelf is a dreadful fax copy - BUT as I just discovered a few days ago, they have the original in the CLOSED STACKS and they have a color copier. The photo even in the original isn't great, but it is atleast viewable and may be a nice addition to your family history collection if you are descended from this specific Hellebusch. Mr. Hellebusch was also a sponsor at the baptism of one of the first of my ancestors children! So, they knew eachother and were obviously close. I hope you find this information useful and interesting. If you'd like more information on how to obtain a copy of that photo if you don't live near Covington, please let me know. LeeAnn McNabb Cincinnati, Ohio PS. I believe the Hellebusch name might also be in the naturalization abstracts for Hamilton County, but I might be thinking of the wrong resource - I know I've seen Hellebusch recently in something else I was looking through. This maybe off topic for some, but it amazed me how many Wars the US had been in, seems like most of my ancestors fought in at least 10-20 of them. My ancestors in Boone and Kenton Co were Sharp and Morgan. Both died and are supposedly buried in Kenton Co ca 1879. Also, at least one son, Thomas W., was married in Kenton. Any info on this family? Will share what I have. Bud Sharpe in Florida
LEMKER, MOLITORE, FISCHER, MEYERS, DREAGS (or some variation of that name) It is on a death cert. and I cannot quite make it out. They were all German Catholics, I think, and lived in Covington, Kenton Co. Anyone else interested in this family clan? Sherry in Tucson

Darla, My Weber's went by Weaver at one time. I have been looking for more information on my Philip Weber's/Weaver's father whose name was Louis. I do not know his mother's name. Philip was born in 1831 in Bavaria, Germany and came to the states a little before 1840. I only know of one brother whose name was Nick. I have a photo of an Agnes Weber. I think she may have been Nick's wife but do not know that for sure. Sincerely, Renee Werth
