They were born in Virginia and moved to the Independence area in the early 1800s. I have a map of Independence circa 188? that shows some Stephens living on the land next to the land that had been Aquilla's (the land was split up among his kids when he died). Do you know what year Polly and Joseph were married? Aquilla died in 1842...is it possible Polly remarried to Joseph after that?

I did go to the library site and found the St. Elizabeth Hospital report on Louisa Haag---I was not aware of that article. We visited the Covington Library several years ago and found the articles on Nicholas' and Louisa's death. We also visited their grave sites in Highland Cemetery.
Some of my family lived on John Street about that time. Let me ask around and see if anyone remembers anything about the Haag family. Darla The Woodlands, TX

One thing you may want if you don't already have it. I went to the Kenton County Library website after my first message, and found two newspaper articles about his death and one about hers. His appeared in the Kentucky Post on 10 Apr 1930 and 11 Apr 1930 - both on page 1. Hers was on 16 Apr 1930, page 6. With that information you should be able to contact the library and get copies of those items. There might be a fee but it would just be the cost of the copies. I don't know what is in these articles but I would expect they'd be of interest. There is also a record of a hospital stay in 1927 on the library website. Looks like she might have taken a fall and they were worried about her hip. You can contact the library on line by going to their website at http://kenton.lib.ky.us

We are hoping to locate descendents of family or friends who lived near Nicholas and wife, Louise, on John Street during this time. We would like to determine why Nicholas and some of his family moved to Covington from Louisville and some of his children remained behind in Louisville. Several of Nicholas' children lived in the neighborhood near John Street: Lena Rutledge, Helena Ella Alberts, and Catherine Clara Mulligan. We wonder what happened to their descendents. Do any family photos or information exist? We have discovered that Nicholas committed suicide in his shoemaker shop on John Street in April, 1930. His wife died one week later. We were successful in contacting a lady whose father (still living) grew up on John Street, knew of Nicholas Haag, but could provide no specific information. Thanks

I am trying to find the ancestors of my 3rd Great Grandparents and their relatives. They were Martha Priscilla BRAKE and Reverend William W. WYNN. This is what I do know about this couple and their descendants. Reverend William W. WYNN was born about 1817 in Tennessee. He married Martha Priscilla BRAKE who was born in August, 1821, in Trigg County, Kentucky. She died 30 December 1905 . William died on 26 April 1897. The couple had at least 2 children: 1. Nannie Catherine “Katie” WYNN 2. William B. WYNN According to the 1880 census, both of William’s parents were born in Tennessee. Both the 1880 and 1900 censuses state that both of Martha’s parents were also born in Tennessee. William W. WYNN, wife Priscilla and son William B. were enumerated on the 1880 Census in Elizabethtown, Hardin County, Kentucky. Martha was living with her daughter Katie and her husband C.C. BORAH in Cromwell, Ohio County, Kentucky in the 1900 Census. Cromwell was my mother’s birthplace. Although I may not have the family specifically located in this county, I know from Kentucky birth and death indices that several members of either family have resided here. My Wynn family seems to have been on the move a lot. Thank you in advance for any help. My e-mail address is pigfish9@swbell.net. Debbie Kaelin

I tried to send this to her email address listed on rootsweb.com. It got sent back to me. I'm hoping that she's on one of these two lists with a new email address and will see this. Sorry for sending this to the lists. LeeAnn ----- Original Message ----- From: miriam To: pjam@redshift.com Sent: Thursday, November 24, 2005 10:58 AM Subject: Elizabeth Borges Hartke Hello. My name is LeeAnn McNabb and I'm writing to you from Cincinati, Ohio. I have been doing Borges research in the Covington area for about 3 years now. I'm actually working on the "Borges Family of Covington" for my family which I hope to have finished by the end of this winter. I just found an entry in "Kentucky: A History of the State" for Joseph Hartke whose mother was a Borges and who was born in Hanover. This really excited me, because I've seen the Hartke name somewhere before, I believe as Baptism sponsors. I hadn't even bothered to write these sponsors down, as at that time I hadn't recognized the name. I began wondering if Elizabeth Borges Hartke was a sister to my Johann Andreas Borges, born 1806 in Hanover somewhere. I've never been able to track down exactly where he was from. I then did a search on rootsweb with the Hartke name to see what I could get to pull up for the Covington area. I found your gedcom. I was excited to see you listed her paren! ts and the town where she was born. How did you get this information? At this time I do not know for sure they are siblings, but I believe there is a 50/50 chance. I do know that Johann Borges came before 1845 as he had a child baptized at Mother of God Church during that year. In the history it states Joseph and his parents came in 1847 - so they would've come after Johann. Oh no, I just looked at the church records available at the LDS and they start in 1808! There's no way for me to verify. I may have to research on how to contact the church directly for other years than what the LDS offers. Oh well, I do thank you for your time and consideration and any information on how you obtained the Borges information. Thanks again. LeeAnn McNabb
