Miriam, My grandfather's brother was Everett Easton and he was married to Mayme MIDDENDORF . I have a few pictures of both of them if you are interested. I have lots of ancestry information on Everett EASTON, but no ancestry information on Mayme MIDDENDORF. Hello Ann. I looked through my Hackman data and as of yet, haven't found a Helen Hackman with a connection to the Bergelt or Borgelt family. If I do come across it while looking through church records, I will let you know. Thanks for the census help. LeeAnn ----- Original Message ----- From: <AnnBergelt@aol.com> > Okay; > > Do you have a HACKMAN (Helen) connection to the BERGELT or BORGELT surname > in Covington? > > Ann Bergelt
Lee Ann: I'll follow up Ann's info on Gertrude Haar with this: She was apparently a widow during the 1900 census as no husband is listed. She had 5 children - 4 sons and a daughter: Jno., Ben, Frank Charles and Francis. All born in KY. Children's parent all born in Germany. The 1910 Census shows her as a widow, having 8 children - 6 living. John and Francis still at home, living on Patton Street. Also on 1910 there is a Gerhardt Haar, age 72 with wife Theresia age 66, living on Nancy Street. They had 10 children - 6 living. Bob Regan
OK; I have also looked at the HQ censuses in question. Agree with Ron's interpretation except for the following: (1) I think Geo. Haar's initial looks more like a "W" than "S". (2) The immigration year, 1868, is followed by "32", but I believe that's how many years since immigration, not the subject's age. Did you also notice that the family is followed next by Gertrude Haar and family, at #34 Patton? Can't make out much of her entry at the bottom of the page, but it appears she immigrated same as Geo. and wife "Terecie", which probably should be Theresa. Now for the Wieghaus 1870 entry -- Henry W. age 57, selling milk Katherine age 54 Henry age 24, drives wagon Frank age 18, drives wagon Ellen age 10 All in the family were born in Oldenburg. Best wishes, Ann Bergelt

LeeAnn, Sometimes those pages do that. When it does, just go to the top of the page where it tells you to click to 400%. Click it and the whole page will come up for you. Try this, hopefully it will work for you. There are a few but very few issues of newspapers from before 1840 and I don't think any of those are before the 1830s. I remember looking at a paper from the 1830s that said it was published in Covington, Campbell County, Kentucky. Kenton County split from Campbell County in 1840. After a long hiatus, Kentucky Genealogy is back on the WWW. (I made the mistake of opting for a long-term contract with my web site provider, and by the time renewal came up, I'd changed my e-mail address and never got the notice..) Anyway, we're back. Kentucky Genealogy is a mostly fee-based web site, at www.sworrel.org <http://www.sworrel.org/> , that contains several complete, professionally abstracted Kentucky marriage databases with an automatic Soundex conversion search feature. Marriage databases are available for the following counties, from their formation up to 1850: Boone, Campbell, Clark, Kenton, and Mason. Also some marriages from ministers' returns for unknown counties are included. These are the most complete and authoritative abstracts of marriages from these counties ever done: they contain information not only from the bonds, licenses, and ministers' "returns," but from "consents" filed by parents or relatives, where available (see "FAQ"). In some cases, the databases contain over 1,000 more marriages than previous compilations. The civil records have been supplemented by some religious records where the latter contain new marriages for a given county. Unlike some other genealogy databases, you don't have to know the exact spelling of a name to retrieve it: an automatic Soundex conversion searches for common variants. (This is important because the county court clerks often spelled names phonetically.) The databases make the marriage records fully searchable with one click-for all occurrences of a name, not just the bride, groom, or bondsman. Free lists of the most common surnames in each database are on the site, along with detailed information on the documentary sources used. Additional free records abstracts for Boone County are posted on the site as well. I am occasionally available for genealogy research commissions in the central and northern Kentucky area. If you are interested, contact me via the site's e-mail address in the navigation bars. Again, it's at www.sworrel.org <http://www.sworrel.org/> .

There is a book out on the Rouse family some lived in Kentucky during the Civil War. They came from Virginia around Culpeper area. Not sure if you connect or not.
