Candy, I don't doubt you are right about the copyright surviving the death of the holder of that copyright but I can add just a bit of info. As I am sure that Mrs. Cox can be located in Lexington, KY, this would not apply to this case but I do know that in the case where the next-of-kin cannot be located, anyone can apply to the state for the copyrights to the work in question. The state in which the copyright holder lived can award that copyright to anyone who applies who can prove that they have made a genuine effort to find the next-of-kin.
