Marilee, Found this recipe in Better Homes and Gardens' "Heritage Cookbook" (pub 1975): Cracklin' Bread 4 oz finely diced pork fat (1 c) 1 tsp baking soda 1 c cornmeal 3/4 tsp salt 1 c flour 1 c buttermilk 2 beaten eggs To make cracklings, fry pork fat till crisp. Drain, reserving 1/3 c drippings. In mixing bowl stir together cornmeal, flour, baking soda and salt. Add buttermilk, eggs and reserved drippings, beat till smooth. Stir in cracklings. Turn into greased 10-inch oven-going skillet. Bake at 425 till done, 15 to 20 minutes. Cut in wedges. Serve warm. Makes 6 servings. Hope this is what you had in mind. Enjoy. Betty J. Pulley
