The Kentucky Dept for Libraries and Archives has state and local government records dating from 1780. Library M-F 10-4pm archives T-S 8am -4pm 502-564-8300 I don't know if the two are the same or different but you have the numbers. In my Great Getaway Kentucky Guide book it says the following: Slated for opening in early 1999. The Kentucky History Center will offer 167,00 sq. ft of museum and research space. The center will include hands on activities, interactive displays, dynamic collections, as well as the foremost genealogical tracing facility in the state. For tours and hours please call toll-free 877-4HISTORY. I hope this helps. I was hoping to go when we came to KY in Sept but we ran out of time. :( Spent to much time having fun and doing some research in Paintsville. Maybe next year. Does anyone on the list know where the archives is located in Frankfort, KY, < I'll be driving from Paintsville by way of the Mountain Parkway> what time and when the Archives is open?? And is there a room there where I can search the records of vital statistics for the early 1900's through present?? Are all the records in the same building? I'd like to go spend a couple of days doing research there, next week.
