I must come from a really boring family. Every year we have the same stand by. Ham, potato salad, and baked beans. Being polish we are more traditional on my Dad's side at the Christmas holiday. We place straw under the dinner table to signify the birth of Christ. I make pierogi, (a type of dumpling that is filled with potato and cheese, sauerkraut, or farmer cheese), home made mushroom soup, Dad picks and dries the mushrooms himself, pickled herring, stuffed walleye (or salmon) and every dessert that you can imagine. Christmas Day is Duck soup with homemade noodles, turkey and all the trimmings and again all the desserts imaginable. Dad this year took prunes (yes you read right) and soaked them in Amaretto liquor for 2 days and then encased them in Chocolate. I want to tell you they were absolutely wonderful. It is true. With chocolate anything is edible. Semper Fi.
