My Mammaw, Esther Rigsby Adams, use to make a salve out of lard, coal oil, and turpentine that reeked to the high Heavens, but was the best stuff I have ever used to help with a cold and sore throat. The mixture was rubbed on the throat, neck, back and chest while warm. Thinking about that made me think of other home remedies we use to use when I was a little girl. I am curious to how many of you know remedies that your Johnson County ancestors used? If there are enough responses, I will make a page on Ann's Homeplace to list them, with each submitters name.
