The following article appeared this week in the Louisville,Ky Courier Journal newspaper: Paintsville area to get state help Paintsville,Ky- Paintsville and Johnson County,which want to become a recognized center for technological training and education, will get help toward that goal, Gov. Paul Patton said ye4sterday. The county and it's seat were selected as the latest" new town" model growth center under the Community Developement Initiative of the Kentucky Appalacian Commission. Paintsville and Johnson County set goals of boosting tourism, creating entepreneurial businesses and having a 20% population growth in 10 years. To do that, the two governments planned, among other things, to develop a flexible training center in cooperation with Mayo State Technical College. The Community Development Initiative tests thye premise the a community can develop a sustainable economy if assistanve is targeted toward it. By it's nature, the program encourages local governments to work together. Bill Reed
