    1. [KYJOHNSON] Dad`s Story
    2. barbara johnson
    3. Yesterday morning I read in the Paintsville Herald the obituary of Ada Conley Ross. This afternoon I told my Mom and Dad about her passing. My Dad always loves to tell stories and I always love to listen. My Dad is George Jackson, son of Milt Jackson (Elijah Milton) and Ida Bell Barker. This is the story that Dad told me about Ada Conley and himself: "The worst whipping I ever got in my life was over Ada Conley." "We lived up on the hill and Millard and his family lived down over the hill. You know how the hills are up there",motioning with his hands. " We could stand in our back yard and talk to them in their back yard. They came to our house everyday. Me and Ada were about the same age." (Dad was born in March of 1920 and Ada in February) "One day Ada was up at our house. Me and her were a fightin` and a wrestlin` and a rollin` in the floor. About that time Aunt Del walked in. She said, " Oh, look at you, you`re a huggin` my daughter." " I jumped up and looked at her and said, "You old fool!" "Dad got a hold of me and gave me the worst whippin I ever had. I thought he was going to kill me that day, and Ma too." Well, Dad, I don`t think Ada Conley was the reason you got that whipping that day. And I think that I would be safe to say that even though you are now eighty years old, and Delphia Conley was not your Aunt, that whipping was the reason you referred to her as "Aunt Del" today.
