Hi all... I'm still trying to get back into the swing of things after my mother's death in March and dealing with depression. I did go to Kentucky for about two weeks and learned a lot of things...I met relatives for the first time that had contacted me after finding my genealogy site. I am the gg granddaughter of Nellie Hale Calhoun...her parents being James Hale and Jane Sanders. Right now I'm searching for HALE, CALHOUN, SPARKS, BAYES, SALYERS, BURTON, SHEPHERD, HOWARD and HAMILTON descendants around Floyd, Johnson, Magoffin, Lawrence, Martin, Pike and Carter Counties. My website is located at: http://members.aol.com/aslaton300/index.htm I have new updated information I have not added to my site as of this date. I'm still recovering from the long drive to and from Kentucky back home to Texas! I did have help! My two young children are "miniature genealogists" and are as involved in the family history as I am. Happy Hunting to all... Sherri Hale
Isn't it wonderful to meet new cousins? I have been corresponding by e-mail and phone with a few new cousins on my ADAMS line. We plan to meet in person one day and I am just thrilled thinking about it! Sherri Hale mentioned her "miniature genealogists". I have a miniature genealogist also. My 8 year old son loves to go to Johnson County with me. He likes helping find stones in cemeteries and is pretty handy with a camera. By involving our kids, we get them interested in family at an early age and it is sure to carry over in their adult lives. I have been looking at my calendar trying to decide a weekend next spring for our Johnson County Get Together. I think I prefer to have it a bit later than the first weekend of April this year, as last year it turned cold on us and even snowed a bit. I am open to suggestions. One thing we need to keep in mind is that we cannot do this on a holiday weekend. If you are interested in coming, please let me know. I have several cemeteries lined up for the JCCCP to clean and transcribe this fall after the snakes slither back into their holes. Anyone interested in helping? If so contact me, please! I think that's about it for now! Have a great day of research! Ann
I am so excited because today I received pictures of my husband's McKenzie & Gambill ancestors who lived in Redbush, Johnson County, Kentucky. Included in the package is a photo of the Cold Springs United Baptist Church. The photo was taken during the years that the McKenzie and Gambill families worshiped there. I think that would have been sometime during the late 1800's or early 1900's. Ann, I see that the Cold Springs Church is included in your list of Johnson County Churches. I am wondering if you or anyone else might be able to tell me more information about the church or be able to pinpoint the date of the photo. I have just posted it at: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=573222 Scroll down the page to McKenzie Family. I will be adding more photos for the McKenzie, Gambill and Estep families ASAP. Thanks for any help you can give me. Sharon McKenzie Pleasant Hill, CA
Sharon, My family has been a part of Cold Springs United Baptist Church since its formation. My Uncle has been the Moderator for several years now and my first cousin is the clerk. Another cousin is the treasurer! Both my Pappaw and Mammaw's funerals were held there and now, we have our family reunion there. There is a recent picture on Ann's Homeplace. Ann
