Actual copies of census records may be ordered from S K Publications. You have to get a quote from them... I believe it's .50 per page + a flat fee, but that could be wrong. In Pike County, about 25 got together to order the 1920 census. It takes quite a while to get it, but the total cost, divided by the 25 of us will be around $30. We set up one coordinator to do the ordering, collecting, etc. Once the copies are finished, they will give the census to either Rootsweb or USGenWeb (I forget which) for posting. If anyone else is interested, I would be willing to do a similar program for Johnson County for any census year 1860-present. Excuse me once again, fellow listers, forgot to mention that my mother did obtain the info she sought from someone on this list. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear about how I felt about the list and those who participate -- you people are the GREATEST. I will continue to "lurk" and read all your posts, but seriously doubt I will every post another word or thought here. Hope you all keep up the fine work. Joan B. Hi fellow listers, Hate to say so, but I'm getting pretty tired of seeing others scolded like children myself. Have only posted once here because of the attitude of the coordinator. I was also upset when my mother ask for info on her Johnson Co. family who were first residents of Floyd County (as most were). She was FIRMLY directed to the Floyd Co. list by Ms. Applegate. This attitude makes me sad, because it's a wonderful site with allot of great info!!!! The list is full of giving and caring people who share information about their families. This, to me, says we are all people who care about family -- past and present!!!! If we're not allowed to show that we care for eachother on here perhaps we should all find another list, and there is a new one that might fit the bill. Diana Montgomery-Parsons started an east-Ky. roots list in July, but it is rapidly growing. Here Ms. Parsons welcomes all. You may post prayers, poetry, obits, and even clean jokes. This list covers all areas of eastern Ky. -- no matter if your family started here and ended up in another state or country -- or if they started somewhere else and ended up here. I have thought of unsubscribing due to the rising attitude/tension. So far I choose against it simply because of all the wonderful people who kindly helped guide me. I do not think that this behavior is called for. Geneolgy can be a very exciting, rewarding, even pleasurable experience. I personally have enjoyed it thus far and would like to continue doing so. There is more than enough stress in everday life---why add to it??? Faith was concerned about Ann , I would be moved by her well wishes - not ready to scold her and the entire list!! Maybe I inturpreted it wrong, if so I apologize. If not then I am apalled by shallowness and shall unsuscribe as soon as some one can clarify this. Very Sincerly! I purchased the 1900 Johnson Co., KY, Census from Ruth Salyer who lives in Paintsville, KY. Check at the Johnson Public Library. I think they have her address. Del
I agree with Donna and the others because my great and grand parents always said they were from Johnson, Lawrence, Magoffin, Elliott, Morgan, Rowan.......... long before they were name individual counties. Sorry, I never get into these ' 2 cents discussion' but this time......... and I'm still waiting for information promised by the list owner over a year ago. looking for QUESINBERRY, MARSHALL, OWENS, JUSTICE, LITTLETON, HAMILTON, VANOVER from all the above counties and others, too. kycherokee@aol.com
Hi Donna, I live in Florida and have a hard time getting our small town library to order these items in. That's why I want to get my own copies. I really appreciate everyone's help in letting me know where to get a copy. I plan to get in touch with Ruth Salyers right away. Thanks for your help.
