My idea is to forget what happened and continue to make this the best list on the net. You have to admit that we do get a lot of help from a lot of very wonderful people. Bud
What is the value of knowledge if it isn't shared? And you know that whatever we each put out in attitude and help to others, it is returned to us? Interesting comments. I've been out of town and had 330 emails waiting when I got back so I've been slow on the uptake. I had a problem when I first got on the list....I subscribed to four or five lists simultaneously and typed a generic type message and then sent it out to the counties to which I had subscribed. Within minutes I was accused of "spamming" and sumarily unsubscribed by the list owner not only from Johnson but from all the lists she controls, and was told to join Paul Bailey's message board on eastern KY. I could not understand what the objection or fuss was all about. But it seems since I did not SAY "Johnson" in the list, it was assumed that I had joined Johnson by mistake, when all I had done was try to cut down on the amount of typing I had to do to post query on four or five lists. That was a few weeks ago and I still don't understand what the fuss was about. Can we get another parallel Johnson Co. list going? I belong to a lot of county lists all over and have never been treated the way I was treated on Johnson Co. list but......one person won't deter me from my KY! There is always a way around whatever blocks my path. Hello Kim, I saw your note concerning your surnames. The ones which interest me are Stapleton and Salyer. My great grandfather, John Stapleton, married Margaret Salyer, and my g-g-grandfather, Thomas Stapleton, married Elizabeth Salyer. Elizabeth was the daughter of Samuel Salyer and Margaret was the daughter of William Salyer. Samuel and William were brothers. If this is your line I would like to correspond with you. I don't have a lot of information on my line, because by the time I became interested, my father was deceased. Thanks for your post, and if these names are familiar, please respond. Janice LeMaster

I have a quote back census: "We estimate the 1900 Census at about 280 pages (about $210, at 75 cents per page), and the 1920 Census at about 400 pages (about $300). We will provide five copies of a CD at no additional cost. If you have more than five people who want to pool their resources, we will provide 10 additional copies of a CD at $5 each." If my calculations are correct, the total for 15 of us would be about $18 each for 1900 and $24.00 each for 1920. I sent a reply back and asked if more than 15 total CD's are available. Will keep everyone posted. According to the web site, these will be only useable by a PC with Windows 95 or better. The web site is http://www.skpub.com/genie/ if anyone would like to learn more about it. Let me know who is interested and if there are enough, I will coordinate the project. I will need money in advance in order to make the deposit. Then if the project is more or less, I would need more money or send refunds. You would also need to include the cost of postage since sending out 15 CD's to different people could get rather expensive.
