I also am looking for info on Lydia Rice. She was married to either Wyatt or Winston Daniel ( if it was Winston then it is possible she is still alive). To my knowledge she has spent her entire life in Johnson County and surronding area. She could hold a lot of helpful information about my family. Thanks again Shannon A Daniels Columbus Ohio

Just wondered if Mr.Cox published any books after APPALACHIAN CROSSROADS and if so what and where can they be purchased? He once told me he was working on one of the CAUDLE family. TIA, Sue in Al.

I am > trying to track the name Machell back. I also received from a gal in MT several years ago, a book [snip] Johnson Co. List: The 1975 TEK article on THOMAS TACKETT, that Annette Towler is referring to above, was written by Vivian [Mrs. Melvin] Bales, then of Crawfordsville, IN, a long-time member of The Tackett Family Assn. - and a prolific writer and contributor. Although somewhat dated now, this article is essentially still accurate, with but a few errors - perhaps in transcription from her original letter to the publisher of The East Kentuckian - yet contains only a very small bit of data we have for this family. The subject of the article was THOMAS TACKITT, c1770-aft1850, who was in the present Shelby Valley of Pike Co. by the 1830's, along with several of his siblings, being children of PHILLIP TACKITT (c1745-aft1830) & SARAH TACKITT SR. PHILLIP SR. most probably was originally from present Prince Wm. Co., VA. THOMAS, his 2nd wife, Sarah, and sons, JOHN & MOSES, left Pike Co., KY for Barnetts Creek in present Johnson Co., KY c1839, to join another brother, WILLIAM and perhaps some daughters and sons-in-law. We have in our collection [among many original documents], the ORIGINAL July 1828 Marriage Consent letter for Thomas's son, JOHN TACKITT (sic) to marry ELIZABETH LEDONHAN (sic) [aka Leadingham], wit. by PHILLIP TACKITT (sic) and GEORGE TACKITT (sic), and signed by THOMAS TACKETT (sic). The letter may have been written by THOMAS's brother, WILLIAM TACKITT SR., 1779-1851, who was a Pike Co. Commissioner & Justice of the Peace at the time. It is obvious that the signature for PHILLIP & GEORGE, as well as the letter, were all written by the same person, and essentially the same handwriting as for other documents we have that were signed by their brother, WILLIAM TACKITT SR. The signature for THOMAS does look like it probably was written by a different person. The proven children for THOMAS [apparently not all by one wife] were: MOSES, JOHN, WILLIAM & SARAH [numerous deeds, census, tax & other county records]. Others who we place in this family as "assumed" children would be MARY, LETTIE & SABRINA. There seems to be little doubt that there is a link there somewhere, [they were probably 2nd cousins], but we have yet to find the proven relationship of THOMAS TACKITT to the sisters, MACHELL & FRANCES TACKETT who married the LEMASTER brothers, Eleazer [c1760-aft1850] & John [c1774-1846], from Amherst Co., VA. Although we have been accumulating data on these families for 40+ years, it seems like we continue to locate "bits and pieces" to firm up the puzzle. . . . and look forward to finding that "one piece" that will put it all together. [Well, perhaps "one piece" is being a bit too optimistic.] I'm sorry that I just am not able to respond to most of the email queries I receive [and I usually limit responses to those who provide a full name & regular mailing address], but for future reference: Our large collection of over 24 filing cabinet drawers of hard copy material & several thousand photos on the TACKETT and allied families of Pike/Floyd, Johnson/Magoffin & Carter/Bloyd/Greenup Counties, et al, will eventually be donated to The Allara Library, Special Collections, Pikeville College, Pikeville, KY [and they never have to worry about a flood destroying the records up there on that big hill!] Jim W. There is a book store in Van Lear called Words N Stuff. They have topographical maps and I think they are great! It has the cemeteries marked but it doesn't have their names. The maps are $4 each. There has been much discussion and many questions asked recently on the Johnson County List about Elizabeth Salyer Castle. Then, I have recently been reminded that someone on the List has been asking about Levi and Mary Carty Salyer. I have very little if any documentation, but here is what I have in my files. Hope some of it will help someone to find what they need. Bud Caudle Here's what I have pertaining to Elizabeth Salyer Castle. Dear fellow listmembers. I would like to raise the issue of quoting or replying to messages. When you click on "reply" for your email, you resend back to the list the entire message you are responding to as well as your reply. We have solved this on some lists by typing in our own subject (such as Re: Quoting) and then a one or two scentence such as "Mac Webb wrote: "Does any one have information on ..." then the reply. That way everyone gets the gist of the question and the answer. As it is done now, we often read the same original question 5 or 6 times (in digest mode). Just a suggestion:) Mac Webb
Good for you Ann
