Folks, This is a small up date on the Cemetery Cleanup Project. So far I have received donations in the form of two checks and a box of much needed gloves and beverage mix for thirsty workers. My heartfelt thanks goes out to these two fine folks. Yes that is right. Only two subscribers found it in their hearts to make a donation. Now, as I recollect, there were quite a few wanting this cleaned up. It takes money to buy the needed supplies. For now, the donations can be sent directly to me. On my next trip to Johnson CO. I will be setting up a fund account at a local bank where donations can be deposited directly. Also I want to mention the bravehearted folks that have volunteered to meet me at the cemetery to help with the manual labor. I dont know what I would do with out you but we still need about three or four more good hearted folks to join us. Do I see a few more volunteers out there? Ann
Candy, I still want to participate in getting the 1920 census. Hopefully we can double the amount of folks who want that census which would bring the cost down to around 25.00 each. please keep us poated as to the number of folks wanting it. Sassyman
What cementery are you referring to? Ramah Frazier
I'd rather not pay $52 for the 1920 census records, but am willing to wait a little longer to see if more people send in their checks. ....Marilyn -----Original Message----- From: Candy Parent <candy@htonline.htonline.com> To: KYJOHNSO-L@rootsweb.com <KYJOHNSO-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Monday, November 01, 1999 2:58 PM Subject: 1900 & 1920 census records project >Just an update... so far for the 1900, I have received money from 10 >individuals (including myself). We were going to order CDs of the actual microfilmed records of the 1900 and/or 1920 census for Johnson County, KY. By going in as a group, it makes it affordable for all. S K Publications, after making the CD, will donate a copy to the USGenWeb organization for placement on the internet. Dear Candy, Maybe you should ask just the 10 of us who have already paid for the 1900 census, how we feel about staying committed to the purchase of the census with the smaller than expected number of just 10 of us paying. I am willing to go the distance with just the 10 of us. I also am willing for you to set a deadline of 10 days, say November 12th for anyone who wants to go ahead and actually send their money to you. Once you receive the money you could add them to the list. This still gives anyone a chance to be a part of something wonderful and gives us a chance to have more than 10 people paying for the 1900 census. I didn't go in on the 1920 census because my family had already moved away by then. But you might consider making the 1920 census a separate project with a different deadline for payments. Maybe could make it a project for next year. Then the financial resources of Johnson County researchers aren't strewn between two projects simultaneously. You could maybe try to do one census every six months or one a year. I don't want my money held until December 1999 or until sometime in the year 2000 for you to place the order of the 1900 census. I think it should be ordered from S&K by the third week of November (this would give you a chance to let any checks you receive to clear) so we can have it online by next Spring. You have already done so much work and gone to so much trouble to get this accomplished. I hope that we all can go ahead and get this accomplished together. Sincerely, Wendy

Just an update... so far for the 1900, I have received money from 10 individuals (including myself). The estimated cost was $210.00 + an additional $25 for the 5 additional CDs. That leaves us each paying 23.50 rather than 17.50. Is this ok or should we wait for more to join? 1920: We only have seven... the cost of that CD was estimated at $350.00 + 2 additional CDs=$360.00. That takes the price up to about $52.00. That's too much for me. What about everyone else? Should I return your checks or are more people going to participate? I thought I read all reports closely. This is the first time that I remember this subject of the census being mentioned. I have just submitted money for the 1920 census in Pike County. I would like the 1900 & 1920 census if we can get the cost down a bit. I am waiting for someone to do the census in Floyd County on CD's. Hold off just a day or two and let me think about this one. From what I am reading there seems to be others who were in the dark. Thanks, Bob Kitchen
Why not wait a little longer and see if anyone else wants to join.
I'm still in for the 1900 but the 1920 is to steep for me too. Thanks, Vickie

Hello Everyone, I recieved this info another list and thought it might be of use to some of you. Faith This site was created by the U.S. Army Military History Institute and it is a searchable database of their Special Collections. Using this database you can see if a photograph exists of your Civil War ancestor. There were two records for Melton. Just enter the surname you're searching and the results page will give any photos of any soldier with that surname, along with (if known) his regiment. Next, you can send an e-mail with the photo ID's that you're interested in. The Army will then send you (for free) a photocopy of the picture, along with instructions on ordering a duplicate photo. An 8x10 photo costs $10.00. No more then ten photos will be produced for any one customer per year. http://carlisle-www.army.mil/usamhi/PhotoDB.html

Dear Friends, I hope that maybe you can help me solve part of my Welch mysteries. James Welch, my grandfather was married to Ethel Litton. I have been able to find a death certificate for child Dorothy Welch b. 4-4-1931 d. 3-30-1932 of whooping cough and pnuemonia. Place of burial is Goody Ky. Where would the cemetary be from this time? Mystery #2 My mother Mary Louise Welch was born June 1, 1933 in Pond Creek, Goody Ky. Yet I can find no record of her birth. When I wrote to the clerks office they told me they had no such birth? Mystery #3. My grandmother, Ethel Litton Welch was said to have died when my mother was a babe in arms. I am lead to believe that this would be from 1933 to 35 at the latest yet again I can come across no record. But then I can't find a marriage record yet either. Mystery # 4 I have uncovered a letter from a J. W. Thompson, atty from Inez it is dated June 28th, 1939. At the time James is living in Stone Coal WVa. It reads: "In answer to your letter of the 22nd, will say to you with regard to your divorce and Mrs. Branham. Your divorces and your papers are all ready for to be placed to record. But as you understand, there has been a ruling of the courts that there shall be no records of divorce until the same has been paid in full and so marked, so you realize that our contract was on the amount and for which there is balance due of Thirty-five dollars on the Two divorces. So when you send me this amount I will have them placed to record and will mail you by registered letter a copy of each divorce. So hoping to hear from you by return mail, with your remittance for same. Very truly yours, J.W. Thompson Attorney for plaintiff Thompson and Maynard I have not been able to find any marriages let alone divorces. Where else can I look? Being from Mich makes it hard to look thru records. Making phone calls have been to no avail and my written requests are either unanswered or told no recors, need exact dates etc. Below listed are the Welch members I would love to get info on: James Welch b. 1885 m.
