    2. Hi Bud. I'm still looking for someone to tell me who some of Julia Hall's earlier family was. She was born abt.1850 or 1860 in McDowell,Ky. My mother in law was her grand daughter. She was kin to the Vanhoose's and Lowe's i know because Shirley Mae Lowe Justice was my mother in law's name. Mom's mother was Elizabeth Vanhoose and father was Isom Lowe. They both died in 1918 in the flu epidemic. Barbara Green Justice Jax.,Fl.

    3. Happy Holidays all..........and darn Bud...a question like where is everyone filled my mailbox:/ I do have a question for the list. Robert Haws took out a land grant in 1803. The location of the grant was described as "Beaver Creek at the Sandy River". I have looked over a number of maps and the only thing I can come up with is near Prestonburg, Floyd County. Later in 1815 Robert is lic. to operate a ferry from his land across the Sandy River? Again... I am confused. My ggggg grandfather (Samuel Sr.) took out his land grants in 1784 & 1785 Fayette, later Mason, later Fleming and finally Lawrence County on the Southern most branch of the Licking River. His oldest two sons John and Samuel were very near to each other at the present day Lawrence/Johnson County line where Hwy. 23 runs between the counties. Census records show their neighbors to have been the Salyers, Mann's, Daniels and LeMasters to mention a few. By description, the property almost sounds like it was near the May House? Any ideas? Hope this question will keep Bud busy as he rattled my cage... 2. Hi Bud, no big mystery here, I am chasing my mom's family back to Sweden. Also my gggrandmother Susan Goble back to Germany, also Collins from Floyd Co. I haven't had any luck finding anything about my ggggrandfather, David Hall who died in Rowan Co.,NC in 1822 or his wife Betty Music. I think they were from Johnson Co. to begin with. Their son John M. Hall and decendents make up the Buffalo Set of Halls, which I am a part of. Now if you know anything of David or Betty post it and I will have a lot more ancestors to chase...Ron Hall

    1. Where is Everyone?
    2. Hey, out there!!! Has Johnson County been closed down or blown away? Almost no mail anymore. Or have we all found everything we need and don't want to say "Hello" anymore? Surely we can discuss the cemetery cleanup project, or perhaps someone can tell me where the cemetery is that Lewis and Anna Salyer Lemaster are buried in. Or maybe someone can tell me something about Cinthiann Cordial, born 1878 in Johnson County. She was alive during the 1880 census, but can someone tell me what happened to her after that? Hello!!!! Bud Caudle

    3. Marilyn, I have received three monetary donations as well as a box of gloves for the cemetery cleanup project. The original cleanup date was to be November 18th but I was asked to set the date back by two volunteers, who now say they are unavailable until Spring-(snake season). I now only have one person volunteering to help clean with me and that is Faith Poplin. If I do not get any other volunteers this week, I will get with Faith and she and I will do what we can, as we can. I think it is sad that so many people wanted something done about the cemeteries and then when plans were being made, the gripers skipped out. To those that did send donations, monetary & gloves and beverage mix, and to Faith for volunteering her labor, I THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!!!!! Anyone wishing to help Faith and I with the actual cleaning can contact me by private e-mail : annapplegate@maysvilleky.net Anyone wishing to send a donation may do so @ CEMETERY CLEANUP c/o Ann Lemaster-Applegate 1715 Ash Street Maysville, KY 41056

    3. I have just talked with the owner of Read-A-Lot Bookstore in Paintsville. He is currently out of Volume 1 & 2 of Mitchel Hall's Johnson County, Kentucky- A History of the County, and Genealogy of Its People Up to 1927. He is expecting another shipment in around the first of the year. The GREAT news is..at this time he has eight copies of Volume 4 of Mitchel Hall's Jenny Wiley Country. These volumes are priced at $45.00 plus shipping and handling. After these last eight copies are sold, it is uncertain whether there will be anymore. The phone number is (606) 789-7467. Ann

    1. Cemetery cleanups?
    2. Hi members, the idea of a fund to cover expenses for caretakers to help with the abandoned cemeteries there was being tossed about. Was there a conclusion reached and if so what plan was implemented? I for one would support this with thankfulness and believe there would be many others. Will somebody address this, whether something is on the agenda or if it's been reconsidered? Marilyn

    1. Re: Cemetery cleanups?
    2. Marilyn: I'm sure Ann will answer this, but in case she's away for awhile or something, yes, it is being done. It has started by sending donation of cash or cleaning supplies and worker supplies to Ann. You'll need to get her address from her. She is in the process, if not already completed, of setting up a bank account that could be deposited to without going through her. I am glad to here someone else is interested.
