This list isn't country Vs. city. HBO aired documentaries on Eastern Ky that apparently made all of us Kentuckians look like we are too ignorant to work, live in shacks and survive on welfare and foodstamps. The "city suits" I referred to are the executives and directors that dream up these crazy documentaries in order to boost their ratings and make a buck or two at the expense of we Kentuckians. Please do not twist my words to make it appear I said something that I did not. If you have a reply to this, do so by private e-mail Ann Lemaster-Applegate annapplegate@maysvilleky.net

Sorry everyone but I just had to put in my 2 cents. My Mom was born in those hills and what she became instilled in us was it is not what you have but how you use it. Mom quite school in the sixth grade. Education was not really deemed necessary in some places. Mom was very articulate. She met and married my Dad, (a northern Mi. potato farmer) Dad started a construction business and Mom took care of all the paperwork and payroll. It should be noted that the IRS did come to the house to do an audit and after going back into 4 years of records they found one error of 7 cents, in their favor I might add. Just from the learning of a country girl. I think I should also point out that Mom took great pride in the fact that whenever someone had the nerve to call her a hillbilly, she pointed to the dictionary and directed them to look up the word. It seems Dad was the hillbilly as it shows a hillbilly to be " a northern Michigander" Since I am from lower Mich that must make me only half hillbilly. Poorness knows no boundaries. Semper Fi. Very well said, Ron! We are on the brunt end of jokes, and basically are viewed as ignorant hill people. The media makes us look like uneducated, lazy slobs. I resent that to the very core of my being. They do not show the beauty of our state, nor do they recognize the fine colleges and vocational schools we have. They comb the area looking for the worst possible scenario and play that off as a representation of the entire Eastern section of Kentucky. We know alot more than the big city suits. We know the value of family and tradition verses the high paced conglomerate world where no one trusts anyone nor has time for family and friends. I, for one, am danged proud to be Kentucky born and raised!! Ann Lemaster-Applegate
I'm looking for information on Hiram Butcher who married to June Kistner (her name is seen as Juney his name is seen as Harum in the Bible record). The only record I have of them was given to me verbally by a lady who owned a Kistner family Bible which she has since given away. June would have been born anytime after the 1880 Johnson Co., KY federal Census was taken. Her father died in 1910 so she wouldn't have been born after 1911. Haven't seen the 1900 Federal Census to know if she was still a minor then and living with her parents. Thank you for looking this over and for any help that you can give. Wendy

Does anyone have an address for a web site for Magoffin Co (geneology)?????
Why did this list become about city folks versus country folks?
Yes that would help. I have 15 of their children listed and not much after that. I have Simon Dotson and Phoebe Hollingsworth as Artie's parents but no dates for any of them. Thanks. Hello, I married into a family that are descendants of the Hamilton and Henson families. I cannot seem to find much information on the William Henson (Hanson) (b. Abt 1836 and m. Dorcas Bentley) that was the father of Joseph Henson (m. Nancy Osborne). Does anyone have information on these families? Thank you in advance. Marylou Hill queenbasket@aol.com
Comments on us Eastern Kentuckians are nothing new, as we all know. I know we have problems, but the media never mentions the abundant jobs in the north that are filled by men and women from the tri-state area simply because they know they are honest and hard working. I worked 15yrs in Washington, D.C. and if anyone wants to subject themselves to crime, drugs, prostitution or anything of that nature I would be happy to give them streets or areas in D.C., Baltimore, NYC, Boston just a few cities I worked in, and I was on the streets at all hours. Be proud. We know what we are, and please don't lure these "people" to our hills. That's my two cents worth also...Ron Hall
Donna, try http://genweb.net/~magoffin/ it works for me...Ron
Thanks Donna, anything you can give me on David Hall or Betty Music and if they had more children than John M. would be greatly appreciated...Ron
Hello back cousin, This is the first time I've found anyone looking for the same Boyd line. I didn't know Sarah's last name was Pack. I have the same census records showing what you have. And I came to the same conclusion you did, that they are from a previous marriage. But last year I was searching older censuses and found Boyd and Calloway in the same household again. Unfortunately I didn't copy it because at the time I didn't realize the connection. I dropped my research for them after that, so I will have to dig out all the files again. So far, I have the 1850, 1870, 1880, and 1900 census of Lawrence Co.; and 1910 census of Martin Co. Anderson (Ancil) Boyd's daughter Gracie (Bowling) is my husbands grandmother. May I ask how you are related? It's always good to find someone else searching the same family. I hope we can share info. Thanks again.
