    3. Candy, Don't let this group put pressure on you. I don't believe I have any Lemaster blood running through my veins either. Of course one never really knows : ) I am however related to the Ramey family. My ggg maternal grandparents were John Ramey and Emily Stratton. If there is a family with more members than the Lemaster crowd it is probably the Ramey/Remy bunch. I'll have to look at it closer tomorrow and see what I can match up. Another thing. I sure am glad this list woke up finally. I also agree with the long statement complimenting Ann on the wonderful work she is doing for us. Thanks, Ann. Bud

    3. Hi Shannon, You and I have corresponded before and I don't think we have any connection. I did have a great-grandfather (John L. DANIEL) who lived in Laurel Co., KY with his second wife (my great-grandfather) and they had a son, William Lewis DANIEL born in Laurel Co., KY on June 30, 1865. They were married 02/08/1864 but we don't know if they were married in Kentucky. The second wife was Nancy (unknown maiden name) who was born in Kentucky in 1845. We know he lived in Laurel Co., KY with his first wife and children so we are assuming he divorced her and married Nancy ? in KY. Not sure. I wrote to London, KY to the County Seat and requested a marriage, divorce license for John L. Daniel and a birth certificate for William Lewis Daniel, their son. From London, KY they sent back the message that they had none of those certificates for John L. Daniel or his son. John Lewis Daniel's father, Joseph Daniel and his wife, Levisa Greenlee Daniel are buried in Bell County (Joseph) and Laurel Co.,(Levisa.) I'm not searching for any of the Daniel (s) you mentioned being sought on the Daniel list (South Africa.) My Daniel ancestors were from Claiborne and Grainger Counties in Tennessee, moved to NC, KY and finally settled in Pulaski Co., Illinois where many of them are buried and where I was born. My grandfather, Charles D. Hathaway Daniel was the son of John Lewis Daniel and Nancy ? He added the s to his family name so my name was Daniels as was the name of my father, Raymond Daniels and Charles D. Hathaway Daniels is on the tombstone. Have you ever been in touch (e-mail) with my third cousin,Joseph (Joe) Daniels, in Las Vegas? He had the same great-great-grandfather as I but his grandfather added the s to his name. His family was in Kentucky. Jefferys was one of the wives' names. If you haven't contacted Joe to see if your families connect; and you want to contact him, his e-mail is: JDani74837@aol.com Happy Hunting! 2. Genealogy and family history works in very strange ways. I sent a couple of old unidentified pictures to a distant Jones and McGuire relative to see if he could identify the men in the pictures. He couldn't. A few days later, the same relative sent me some decendant charts of Joel Franklin McGuire. In one of the charts was information on Willie and Bessie McGuire Patton. I have been trying for two years to find out who Willie Patton was. I knew his wife's name was Bessie, but not her maiden name. I have a beautifuly preserved old picture of "Mr and Mrs Willie Patton." My relative couldn't identify the pictures I sent him, but unknowingly he identified another old picture for me. Now, I know that Bessie McGuire Patton was a first cousin to my grandmother Dora Belle Patrick Caudle. Bud Caudle

    2. Hello everyone, I am new to the Johnson County list and am happy to see that it is so active. My husband's paternal grandparents (Procter Knott & Mary Irene Gambill McKenzie) were born and raised in Redbush, Kentucky. However, they moved to Oklahoma via Ohio and my husband did not know about his Kentucky roots until the time of his grandfather's death in 1963. We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Kentucky last October. We were armed with information; much of it acquired over the internet - mostly through the Gambill list. This included a hand-drawn map of the Redbush area indicating where a few members of the family had resided and a list of cemeteries where many of the ancestors are buried. We had reservations at the Gambill Mansion B&B in Blaine. We did not expect to come upon any relatives; really thought there would not be any still in the area. We were pleasantly surprised to find distant McKenzie cousins every place we stopped. We thoroughly enjoyed a visit to the Mountain HomePlace which is located at Paintsville Lake. For those of you not familiar with the Home Place, it is a recreated 1850 - 1875 working farm that includes a farmstead, a barn, Fish Trap Church, a school, and blacksmith shop. The Welcome Center includes a small Museum of Appalachian History. We were especially interested because we were able to determine that the house belonged to my husband's 2nd Great-Grand Uncle (David Jesse McKenzie) and the school was located on property once owned by his 1st cousin 3 times removed (Oliver B. McKenzie). We even found a long-lost cousin working there as one of the interpreters. We were in the area less than 2 full days, but it will always be remembered. We were fortunate to visit at the height of the fall color and the friendly people of the Paintsville, Redbush, Martha, & Blaine areas made up feel most welcome. I recommend a visit to not only track down your roots, but to get to know the good people who live in the area these days.
