Kim: And Happy Holidays to you, too. And good luck on the time capsule. Bud
Looking for information for Isaac HOLLAND, who apparently changed his name to HOLLINGSWOWRTH or HOLLINGSWORTH. Born June 1, 1871, in Johnson County, KY. Was married to Mary SMALLWOOD and died October 13, 1946. Any information would be greatly appreciated. TIA kycherokee@aol.com
I am a social worker who deals with older people. One of my clients shared how they are passing on their family heritage to their children. This couple writes a chapter of their lives, complete with pictures, documents etc. for each of their 10 children. They give one chapter each Christmas. By concentrating on just one period of their lives, and spending a year on it, the resulting chapter is quite impressive. They are very much interested in genealogy (DAR member) so are very thorough in their information and documentation. By the time they finish, the family will have a wonderful book of their family heritage. I thought this was such a wonderful idea that I wanted to share it with all of you. Here is a poem that I just couldn't resist sending. It fits right in with genealogy and history. Ann In Spite Of All Her Faults I hail from Old Kentucky, The State of Bluegrass fame, I love her rolling meadows, Her quaint, historic name. Along her winding byways, No hostile steps resound; Our fathers made it sacred, This dark and bloody ground. I hail it as a treasure, The State that gave me birth; It is beyond all measure, The fairest spot on earth. And when my weary spirit If wafted home to God; I ask but that my body Rest 'neath its Bluegrass sod. Then give me Old Kentucky, The State that I love best, Yes, give me Old Kentucky, The world may have the rest. Author unknown
List, there was a lot of time, energy and frustration in regard to this Carrie person and I can't help wonder if you are aware that some people will do what we just observed and see what they can stir up on a newsgroup or message board. I wouldn't surmise whether she was as she presented herself or not but on other newsgroups I see this happen and it's best to not respond (though I had taken her at face value at her first posting). I certainly don't mean to condescend that you're unaware of "Trolls", but maybe some of the list is new or haven't realized they exist and are active. Thanks for letting me get off focus but maybe if we don't respond we'll keep trolls off the list. Jim, Trust me, the "unidentified subject" of last night was not worth reading anyway. Ann
Hello Folks! Whew! What a night, huh? I think someone got really bored and decided to cause trouble. Whatever the case may be, I have blocked her from the list. There is no place here for that type rudeness! Now, with that behind us, let's have a great day of research! Ann
Ronnie, much my own thoughts. Carrie could be anyone. Did you know there are these people who like to stir things up, maybe even in a group to which they belong or for which they have ownership. A person who does this kind of thing can be anyone. The absolute best thing is to ignore them. This Carrie person did not seem real to me, no one with any kind of "fetching up" would say the things she did, even posing as another person. I can't help but think there is some underlying reason why this went down like it did..... >From: markyivan@webtv.net >Reply-To: KYJOHNSO-L@rootsweb.com >To: KYJOHNSO-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Hesitant to, but about Trolls >Date: Sun, 12 Dec 1999 12:43:44 -0500 (EST) > >List, there was a lot of time, energy and >frustration in regard to this Carrie person and >I can't help wonder if you are aware that >some people will do what we just observed >and see what they can stir up on a newsgroup >or message board. Carrie: Family history is a personal project where other researchers share information on common lines. It is not the purpose of any list that I have ever seen just to "tell you about your family". Go to the various research libraries in your area and do your own research. Very few things are given to us on silver platters and to the best of my knowledge your family research nor mine are listed on a menu where you can go order. I know I may sound harsh but stop and think. Those of us who actual do the research and documentation have spent not only the time but the money to gather the information -- and it appears to me that you are demanding we share. Choosing your words more carefully and certainly not referring to people as "stupid" would more than likely get you more information. It was your reference to the list members be stupid that set me off. The list members for the most part are related to me in one way or another and I didn't appreciate your name calling of members of my family. Herma McAllister
Ann, I realized this after I sent it so I tried to send it to her personally and my mail was rejected so I guess she wasn't that interested in finding out about her BLANTON family. Thanks Ann, Sherri
Hi You Guys/Gals! I have been away too long!!!! Well, I knew you all were responsive! Ol' Carrie got plenty of responses.... way to go! My mailbox is full of this stuff and I'm having a good ol' time but I am so glad that Ann got rid of our "VIRUS"!!!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL OF YOU!!! Sherri Hale
Hi, I'm researching WHEELER and CHANDLER. These two surnames tie in to my tree with HALE. The area is Johnson County also. I don't have much info but will send what I have. Sherri
Faith, Thanks for sharing the meanings of certain symbols. I actually never thought much about it but I'm glad to know what they mean. Thank you very much, Sherri Hale

Hi Everybody! Been out of the state for awhile but I'm back and you know what I'm doing... GENEALOGY! I have BLANTON, McCARTY, WEBB, and HALE that tie in together and was wondering if there is anyone who may have a connection with me. I am researching the following family(ies): I have my McCARTY's back to THOMAS McCARTY and MARGARET Peggy SALYER. The following I'm not sure about so I will list the names that I have so far: George BLANTON, Mary SALYER, Polly DAVIS: I have a James BLANTON and Polly DAVIS....they had a son, Bud BLANTON, who married Minerva (McCARTY?, d/o John McCARTY and Patsy UNKNOWN) John McCARTY/Patsy UNKNOWN FAMILY: Listed in 1850 Census---place unknown---info was given to me but has not been verified: John McCARTY age ? Patsy age ? Rebecca age 8 Nelson age 9 (his mother was a Johnson) David age 6 Minerva age 4 ------>>>>Nelson (above) married Louisa BLANTON ---->>> John McCARTY is the grandfather of Mary Etta McCARTY. John was born 1824 in Russell County, Va. Died 11-30-1861 in Johnson County, KY. He married Patsy UNKNOWN. ---->>>>John's McCARTY's father was Thomas McCARTY. Thomas McCARTY born: 1797 d. 1850 in Johnson County, KY. Mary Etta McCARTY is the daughter of Nelson McCARTY and Louisa BLANTON. ---->>>>Mary Etta McCARTY married William WEBB on 11-18-1880. William WEBB was 25 yrs of age and Mary Etta McCARTY was 16 yrs of age. The following is where I have hit a brick wall. William WEBB and Mary Etta McCARTY WEBB had a daughter, Addie WEBB who married John BLANTON, son of UNKNOWN. They were married in GREENUP COUNTY, KY on 10-19-1916. Addie WEBB has been married to a MEADE, VALENTINE, JUSTICE (dates and places unknown) The family of John BLANTON and Addie WEBB are: (note: not all the children are the children of John): 1) Lovesta BLANTON b. 10-18-1910 d. 6-4-1946 (buried in Dixon Cemetary--Ashland, KY); m. John HALE (these are my grandparents) I wonder why Lovesta's name is BLANTON when she was born BEFORE the marriage of John and Addie. Anyone got any ideas out there????? 2) Leona BLANTON b.? still living.... she married a STURGILL 3) Ray JUSTICE b. 4-4-1930 (according to obit his father's last name was VALENTINE) d. 1-27-1999 in Ashland, Boyd County, KY and is buried in the Dixon Cemetary. I traveled to Ky this past July and was supposed to meet Ray. Unfortunately, he died before I got that chance. 4) John Jay BLANTON b. (don't have the date with me) d. 11-11-1986. He was married to a JUSTICE. He is also buried in the Dixon Cemetary near his mother Addie and grandmother Mary Etta. I noticed another headstone with the name GARFIELD McCARTY who is supposed to be a brother or Uncle to Mary Etta McCARTY WEBB. Anyone with any information please contact me. I do run a website with most of the research that I am doing. Please visit my site and send any comments you may have. For those who haven't received a response from me, I apologize. Carrie, Aka as cmains64@go.com I myself have answered you several times. Perhaps you are not old enough to be on a group and perhaps you need to learn to put your subject in the subject line. The people on these lists are kind and caring and try to help. You are rude and need to learn to get along. Look under the Blanton listing for the info you seek.
