Bud, The Mankins are a collateral line that I have only recently become aware of and have not researched much. I am interested because of the many references I have run across about this family and the history of the opening and settling of KY. I am related thru the wife of Peter Mankins b. ca 1750-1770, m. Rachel Bracken 23 Sep 1803. Rachel descends from two Wilmington, Delaware families, the Brackens and the Stalcups. These families are related or closely connected to my Lewis and Osburn ancestors. In fact, Rachel's mother, Rachel STALCUP, m. second Zachariah Lewis to whom I know I am related. The fact that both Peter and Rachel were also in Orange Co., NC at the time of their marriage, and later moved to Washington Co., AR, further piques my interest as most of my ancestors on my mothers side made similar moves VA/MD to NC and/of KY, then OH, IN, IL and finally AR. I expect that if I peel the Mankins leaf I will find the connections I suspect. Peter and Rachel had the following children whom I know nothing of, but assume some or most we in Washington Co. AR as some time: John Bracken Mankins Walter Mankins William Mankins Edith Mankins Henry Mankins Peter Mankins Samuel C. Mankins Millie Mankins Rachel Mankins Elizabeth Mankins Sarah Mankins By the way, I can't recall, are you related to Cornelius L. "Tuke" or "Toots" Blevins, b. 1890, d. 1980, m. Sarah Melissa "Lissie" Henson b. 1899, d. 1983? If you are, I recently came into possession of a news clipping describing their 70th weddin anniversary party together with a photo of the two of them. Both were born in AR, lived there, and later moved to OK. I would be happy to send you a copy of the scanned file if you are interested. Sarah was my Great Great Aunt, sister to my Great Grandmother, Maudy Frances Henson, and daughter of my GG Grandfather, Jesse Henson, Jr., also of Washington Co., AR. If you aren't, perhaps there is a Blevins researcher out there who is interested?? KY & Names Bill Mattheis: We've corresponded before, but I never noticed until now that you have Mankins in your family. It's a sideline of mine that I've worked on some, but not enough. I have a John Henry Mankins married to a Sarah Ann Payne, but don't know when nor where. I have a listing of their kids, but their oldest, Bonnie Mankins was born 1904 at Harrison, Arkansas. The family was in Lincoln County, Oklahoma at least by 1921 as that is when Bonnie married my mom's Uncle George Harrison Rust. Do you happen to have this family in your records? Hi Mary, Xenia is actually in Greene Co. Faith
Sherri, Carrie is no longer on this list. Ann
Well unfortunatly since it looks as if we are all researching Johnson Co. KY i don't think that would be of much benefit to us. I have volunteered to do lookups for people who are researching here though. Faith > Sounds like we have a lot of people living in Clark County, Ohio. Maybe we > should start a list for those people.
Is Xenia, Oh in Clark Co? If so I once lived there also. Now living in Floyd Co., KY and searching in Johnson & Lawrence Co., KY for ancestors. Small world isn't it?? : - ) Mary Adkins Pinion
LOL maybe we should get a but tour together and all head to Ky for a genealogy trip.!!! ----- Original Message ----- From: M1555@aol.com To: KYJOHNSO-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, December 13, 1999 9:40 AM Subject: Clark County, Ohio Sounds like we have a lot of people living in Clark County, Ohio. Sherri, Sounds as if you and I have a lot in common! My G-Grandfather was Joshua Miles Wheeler who married Jamima Historia Chandler of Chandlersville, Johnson co. Kentucky. I also live in Chandlersville, although it is called Stambaugh mostly now. They consolidated most of the little post offices and most of the little places like Chandlersville go by the name of the new addresses. Example my address is now Stambaugh, Ky. Isaac and Lucina Wheeler Chandler ( Wheeler her maiden name also) are my GGGrandparents and are buried right down the road from me. I am very interested in seeing your line. I descend from both lines of Wheelers here in Johnson/Lawrence co.'s. I havent researched the Chandlers as much as my WHeelers though. My Mothers maiden name is Wheeler so I started out with her maiden name, and there is alot of WHeeler info already researched! Hope to hear from you soon! Cousin (i'm sure somewhere in the line) Vicki -----Original Message----- From: ASlaton300@aol.com <ASlaton300@aol.com> To: KYJOHNSO-L@rootsweb.com <KYJOHNSO-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, December 12, 1999 10:43 AM Subject: Re: Abigail Wheeler >Hi, >I'm researching WHEELER and CHANDLER. Hi Dan, Thank you for the offer. I also live in Clark Co. Do you happen to have any research material for Johnson County? Jo > Jo, > I don't know anything about the folks you mentioned but I live in Clark > County, OH. If you would like me to do some research or make some calls, etc. > let me know. > > Dan
Hi all, I really should'nt do this, because I am going to be very busy until after Christmas, and probably won't get much time to send my lines, I really need to sit down and get this on disk instead of only hard copy so I can just paste it in a letter anytime I need to, but it is very confusing and looong! Anyways here it is- I have found that I descend from this couple at least 4 times right now, and my decscends from them at least once. (as you all know-this treasure hunting seems like a life-long hunt) So I would'nt be surprised to find more connections somewhere. I am the 9th generation 3 times and the 10th generation once. My husband is the 9th generation also. My family intermarried so much it is almost unreal (almost because I am proof, and so are a lot of others <grin>). I am currently living in Johnson co. Ky, at Chandlersville. My Major surnames are Wheeler, Chandler, Craft, Slone and Wheeler, Wheeler, Wheeler! Actually I descend from the children of William Ramey Wheeler and Elizabeth Borders, 4 of their 18 children! do either of you have any of these surnames in your lines? If so, I have pictures of W. R. Wheeler, his father and some of W. R. Wheelers children and so on. Hope to hear from you soon, Vicki -----Original Message----- From: specialteach@dickson.net <specialteach@dickson.net> To: KYJOHNSO-L@rootsweb.com <KYJOHNSO-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, December 12, 1999 4:17 PM Subject: Re: Borders and Sellards >Shannon, > This start page might help you begin Borders/Sellards research. > >http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/b/o/w/Randal-G-Bowling/GENE47-0001.htm l > >Your 'cuz' >Nancy > > >==== KYJOHNSO Mailing List ==== >Comments or suggestions pertaining to this list may be sent to: >annapplegate@maysvilleky.net >Visit the Johnson County Historical Society homepage: >http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyjchs/johnson.html >
billhall@erinet.com writes: << maybe we should get a but tour together and all head to Ky for a genealogy trip. >> Sounds like a good idea to me. Seems like everyone living in Johnson County, Kentucky came to Clark County, Ohio for work. Maybe everyone in Clark County should have a Johnson County Day where everyone gets together that have or had relatives in Johnson Co., Ky. Hi, Faith. We must be on the same lists. Mary in Ohio
Hi Vickie,my husband is they same way. He is kin to just about everyone in Ky. In my family we are the same way from NC. We have to look out for genetic tendencies. In my family it's auto ammunine diseases.
Sounds like we have a lot of people living in Clark County, Ohio. Maybe we should start a list for those people.
I'm still working on my family too!!! Ann Lemaster- Applegate wrote: > Charlene. > Thank you for sharing that! What a wonderful idea and so easy to do.
